Friends - The Mid-America College bachelor's degree program at the Varner Unit (south of Pine Bluff) has produced 35 graduates (classes of '23 and '25) and currently has 33 more men in training. Graduates are now assigned to six units across the state as FIELD MINISTERS.

Their work is already having a profound impact, leading to 35 professions of faith just last month, with several baptisms already conducted. HEART CHANGE is key to achieving moral rehabilitation for incarcerated individuals and fostering positive culture change throughout the Arkansas prison system.

In addition, field ministers have conducted THOUSANDS of individual mentoring sessions, bereavement support, welfare checks, classes taught, devotionals and sermons delivered, prayer meetings in barracks and cells, and more. Please pray for these efforts! Pray for the prison chaplains that supervise them. Pray for the college as more men are trained. And, please give if you can - see the website in the sidebar. Dear Friends of Mid-America College, Varner Unit, As summer unfolds, our focus is on preparing for an inspiring Fall 2025 semester at the Varner Unit! We're thrilled to have 14 dedicated juniors returning and eagerly anticipate welcoming close to 20 new freshmen who are ready to begin their journey with us.

These students are committed to their education, and we need your help to provide them with the resources they need to thrive - and we need a few items for the office. Friends of the Mid-America College Varner Unit were recently honored by the Prison Seminaries Foundation at their bi-annual meeting last week. Arkansas received four of the six awards given. Warden of the Year: James “Hoot" Gibson. He is the superintendent/warden of the Varner Unit where the college is located. Chaplain of the Year: Chaplain Dexter McDonnell, who serves as the Senior Chaplain of the Varner Unit. Sustainability Team of the Year: Colossians 4:18 Prison Ministries, with Senator Eddie Joe Williams receiving the award on behalf of the Colossians 418 Board. And, the Arkansas Department of Corrections was awarded Department of Corrections for the year, with the plaque awarded to Secretary of Corrections Lindsey Wallace, received on her behalf by Warden Gibson.
