Every harvest season (roughly end of July through end of September), UUCD hosts a gardeners market. Gardeners in the congregation bring in their surplus produce and flowers from gardens, CSAs, or other local sources--or value-added products made from them, like zucchini bread or jam. After the service, the donated items are available to all comers for a free-will cash donation. Any money collected is split between UUCD and the Chum food shelf. Today the Market went pop-up at our offsite potluck! 🫶

Behind every deportation is a mother, a father, a neighbor...Please take a minute to watch this urgent message from Pastor Viles Dorsainvil, a Moravian pastor, missionary, and co-founder and executive director of the Haitian Support Center in Springfield, Ohio where Haitian people are under siege. You only need to be human to understand their suffering.

UUCD’s Outdoor Sanctuary offers a green space to reflect on the seven principles and six sources of Unitarian Universalism https://www.uua.org/lifespan/curricula/river/principles-sources, including: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. Great place for a lunch break during UUCD’s annual board retreat or any contemplative occasion!

The flaming chalice has important historic significance as a signal of safer spaces and assistance on the path to freedom; and for me, it is also a fiery reminder of the commitments of this faith.

Unitarian Universalism challenges me to make use of my own freedom, my own privilege, my own values and reason to understand that what I might risk on any given day is just my one small part in the possibility of human goodness and liberation that we preach and teach about in troubled times. These commitments invite every one of us to risk what we think we know about the power of love in the world for greater freedoms, greater justice... for nothing less than liberation for all.

As we explore what it means to hold love at the center of our faith, how might we bring hope home in times like these? Can we offer some aspect of our own spirits to others to help them keep going; to respond to rising hatred with mutual care?

As we come together in this freely chosen faith centered on love, let us hold fast to a spirit that never leaves us, and offer to one another and to our surrounding communities the kind of love that frees.
