The people who have the Covid-19 virus are not numbers they are real people. They are dealing with a range of concerns and emotions. Many are racked with fever and pain; they are coughing and struggling to breathe. The ones who care for them, who stand by feeling helpless, who can only give their love and support from a distance, they too are real people.
The people who have died from this virus are not numbers. They were real people. They were family, friends, coworkers, neighbors - who were talking, laughing, living and breathing one day and now they are gone. They have left behind real people who were not able to be by their side throughout their time of suffering. They have left behind real people who are hurting and reeling in shock, pain and disbelief. They have left behind real people who cannot have special homegoing services to honor their memory.
As we continue to pray for the victims of this disease, let us remain sensitive to the fact that we are not praying for numbers but we are praying for real people.
