People and circumstances in life sometimes appear to be against us. When we feel harmed or mistreated in some way, it is very difficult to understand why we are "dealt the hand" that we have. Especially, when we can see no reason that we have deserved the detrimental consequences of others' ill treatment toward us.

But, I would like to encourage you not to become frustrated or defeated, Christian! God is sovereign over all things! And, all things are ultimately purposed for His glory and to bring honor to His name!

Take Joseph for instance. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers. He was wrongly accused of sexual assault. And, through these very troubling false allegations he continued to honor God. He continued to worship God. He continued to TRUST God. And, he eventually came to be the most powerful ruler in Egypt, next to Pharoah!

Why? So that God could use him to SAVE his people...his father Jacob; his eleven brothers who had betrayed him; and, their families, servants and belongings. Ultimately, it was this that resulted in the nation of Israel growing from 70 people to millions and their eventual release from slavery under a "Pharoah who knew not Joseph" and set them on a journey to the land God had promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob...God's CHOSEN people through which He would display His POWER AND GLORY to all other peoples!

Joseph KNEW that the evil things that had been done to him by his brothers and Potiphar's wife were utilized by God to show to the world the glory of God Almighty; the power of God Almighty; and, the goodness of God Almighty...all that His name would be glorified and honored among the nations!

And, this is why Joseph could harbor nothing but forgiveness for those who had so grievously harmed him. Even harbor that forgiveness...and, love...for his brothers.

Shouldn't we also look beyond the harm done to us when we have been unjustly wronged and seek to forgive...and, love those who have done evil toward us?

Look beyond the hurt and the anger to God's greater purpose. And, bring glory and honor to His name by our response.

Jesus came humbly to His people riding on the back of a donkey. He came to bring peace and reconciliation with God.

The religious and political leaders, for the most part, despised and feared Him; many in the crowd expected Him to deliver them from Roman rule; and, some recognized He would rescue them from the bo***ge of sin.

None of them fully realized that their King had come to suffer and die in their place to redeem them from their sins and extinguish the debt of eternal death in satisfaction of God's wrath reserved for them.

Their King had finally come...to be their Savior!

Jesus Christ! Our Savior, our Lord!

King of kings and Lord of lords!

Once we have been born again to a new life in Christ we discard the "old man" who was ruled by fleshly desires and according to the ruler of this present age--of this world system--Satan. We now live according the power of the Spirit who now resides in us. Our once dead spirit was made alive by God who in eternity past purposed it. By His sovereign act of love, He chose us in Christ; He predestined us to be made alive in Christ by His grace, through faith in Christ alone...and, this is a gift of God and not by any work of our own so that no one may boast!

God did these things to His glory...not to ours. He did these things that we might be an expression of His light...that we would conduct ourselves in this world by displaying to the world His goodness in contrast to the evil in the world. We are His workmanship! We are His servants in this world! We are His elect people on display before the world to accomplish His purposes for our lives...those "good works" that He set out for each one of us before the foundation of the world that we would do!

And, where do find guidance and help to accomplish these things?

His Word!

Jesus prayed for His disciples "Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth." And, this certainly applies to every born again believer as we "take up our cross daily and follow Him" as worthy disciples! John 17:17; Matthew 16:24-26

We no longer walk according to our sight (the flesh), but now walk according to the spirit! And, we have the Holy Spirit to guide us into knowledge, understanding and wisdom through His Word and to help us live according this knowledge, understanding and wisdom gleaned from His Word as He now sanctifies us in truth!

Why have I been "harping" about our need to be steeped in His Word; or, is it more appropriate to describe it as "heralding" the necessity of feeding on His Word DAILY in these evil days we live in seeing the Day of the Lord coming ever closer?!

His Word needs to be studied and meditated upon! It needs to be "written on our hearts"! WE, the body of Christ, have a purpose in this world to glorify God and share the wonderful and mighty wisdom of His Word; but, most importantly, we are to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, His Gospel of Peace and Reconciliation to God! We are to be ready in season and out of season to give an account of the HOPE we have in Christ!

In every aspect of our lives as we walk in this world, His Word can teach, reprove, correct, train in righteousness; and, complete and equip us for EVERY good work!

Christian, are you living a "holy" life?

You have been called by God the Father; saved by God the Son; and, sealed by God the Spirit to salvation and to be His "light and salt" in this world.

We are no longer "of the world" but are now in the world as His workmanship to do His will according to His purposes. We are no longer citizens of this world, but citizens of heaven; we are His children by the spirit of adoption! We have been "called" to be His disciples helped and guided by His Spirit. We have His Word by which we renew our minds and no longer conform to the things of this world that once bound us in the chains of sin.

Do you not realize that His Spirit now lives in us; that we are the temples of His Holy Spirit?! We no longer belong to ourselves, but to Him who has purchased us at a great price.

We have been saved by His grace through faith in Christ alone; and, this is not of our doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast! For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should live our lives according to them! (Ephesians 2:8-10)
And, all of this--our salvation, our sanctification, our purpose, our works...was determined before the foundation of the world--before God created everything! God chose each of us in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love, He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved! (Ephesians 1:4-6)

We should not consider this as a grueling task, but rather as a joy to please our loving Father and with a heart of thanksgiving to serve our Lord! Jesus has said, "If you love Me, you will obey My commands"!

John the Apostle wrote his First Epistle by inspiration of the Holy Spirit as an assurance and exhortation that true born-again believers would be known for "practicing righteousness" (being holy) rather than those of the world (which we once were) who "practice lawlessness". This would be the "mark" of the true Christian who did so out of love for God and other brothers and sisters in Christ.

How can we be holy as He is holy? We have His Word and His Spirit to guide and help us! We have become new creatures in Christ...the "old man" has been mortified and the "new man" is given life in Christ!

So, Christian, renew your mind by the washing of the Word and submit your will to His will; do not conform yourself to the passions...the desires and pleasures of this world! We are now citizens of heaven...MORE than citizens...we are His adopted children; we are kings and priests; we are His beloved! And, He is our Beloved! And, therefore, we should truly DESIRE to learn His will and His purpose for lives; to walk accordingly in righteousness and holiness! We should be joyful as we become more and more like Christ each day growing closer to Him as we work out our salvation in progressive sanctification looking forward to that day that we shall see Him face-to-face!

These are evil days in which we are living. The Lord is returning soon; perhaps very soon as we observe the signs of the season of His return. Be LIGHT to the darkness of this world! Be holy as He is holy!

01/25/2026

The Apostle Paul, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, gives a warning to his son in the faith, Timothy, who was to continue to shepherd churches in Asia Minor in Paul's absence. This warning, or sign, describes the depraved state of society during the End Times prior to the imminent return of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ to receive His bride, the body of Christ, to Himself. Paul generally describes the societal nature of mankind in 2 Timothy 3:1.

3 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:

This depraved society is further described in 2 Timothy 3:2-5.

2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

Paul specifically addresses in 2 Timothy 3:6-9 the state of many alleged "preachers and teachers" declaring to preach and teach the Gospel of Christ and His Word, but are truly false preachers and teachers.

6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; 9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.

In Paul's epistle to the believers in Rome, he also describes and explains the depraved state of mankind. He is more particular in his description of the depraved acts that would become prevalent in society during these "perilous" times. Paul, writing this epistle by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, described how mankind had become so evil in his ways and how even those who professed to be preachers and teachers of His Word had become, in essence, purveyors of lies! Paul begins this descriptive portion of Scripture stating that the wrath of God is evident and revealed to mankind for his evil.

Romans 1:18-23

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

The initiation of God's wrath occurs while these men and women of "ungodliness and unrighteousness" remain on the earth just prior to Jesus Christ's return for His people.

Romans 1:24-32

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Paul is more specific in the exercise of God's wrath against the ungodly and unrighteous and the initiation of His judgment upon these evil doers in the following portion of Scripture.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

In essence, God has removed from them any amount of grace He had extended to them which limited the evil in their hearts that would otherwise have limited the wrath they will incur. God allowed them to seek, without restraint, the evil purposes in their hearts they desired...He turned them over to a debased mind. This is their true nature as enemies of God! A mind and heart absolutely bent upon evil. Even those who do not commit, but APPROVE of these evil acts are condemned!

Dear beloved in Christ, do we not see these things, today?! And, do we not see these things increasing in scope and intensity, today?!

The days we are living in are the unfolding and revealing of the "perilous times" of the last days.

Note the Koine Greek words Paul was inspired by the Holy Spirit to use in the text.

Perilous: chalepos - dangerous, furious - fierce. This word was used in one other instance in Scripture when Matthew was inspired to use it to describe the demoniac whom Jesus cast out the "legion" of demons.

Times: kairos - of certain affinity; an occasion, ie set or proper time - season. This describes a set time, a proper time, a due season. The season of the return of Jesus Christ for His church!

Society, particularly evidenced in America in recent years, has become less and less godly and God fearing. Large segments of society have openly been aggressive enemies of God and His people. They are openly defiant against the laws of the nation and are resulting to lawless mob rule...like the demoniac in the Gospel according to Matthew. Read closely the descriptions Paul has written in the epistles to the church in Rome and to Timothy.

Even some Christians and Christian denominations are encouraging other Christians to disobey or withhold support for the efforts of I.C.E. and Border Patrol to enforce laws of the land enacted by Congress. Many claim it is not conducive to Christian love that we are expelling those from our country who have violated our sovereign border and are illegally present in our nation. They claim it is not Christ-like to do so.

Should Christians abide by and support the civil authorities and the laws they pass and enforce? Perhaps Scripture answers this question for us.

Romans 13:1-7

13 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

Christ-likeness is this: He was spotless. He did not violate any law. He followed the laws of God and the laws of man. He was innocent of any violation of Roman or Jewish law.

Yes, we should follow Christ's example and be obedient to His Word.

Are you Rapture Ready?!

The Apostle John wrote his First Epistle likely between 90 and 95 A.D. in his advanced years. This epistle is known as a "general epistle" to all of the churches he was pastoring in Asia Minor. He wrote this epistle while living and pastoring the church in Ephesus.

This particular epistle was multifaceted and multipurposed. It was an epistle written to defend the basic fundamentals of the Christian faith and refute the heresies of gnosticism which had begun to infiltrate the church through false prophets outside and within the church. It was written to "call the faithful back to foundational doctrines of Christianity" and assure them of Whom and what they have put their faith. And, it was written to provide the faithful believers means by which they could test and prove the security of their salvation.

This gnostic heresy taught that only the flesh was evil and the spirit was good. Additionally, it taught that instead of God's divine revelation standing in judgment over man's ideas, it was man's ideas which stood in judgment over God's revelation.

This lead to the heresy that proposed that Jesus' body was not physical, but seemed to be physical; therefore, denying His humanity. Another facet of this heresy proposed that Jesus' spirit descended upon Him at the time of His baptism by John the Baptist and left His body before His crucifixion; therefore, denying His eternal deity. John addressed both of these gnostic heresies in 1 John 1:1-4...

The Incarnate Word
1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life— 2 and the life was revealed, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was revealed to us— 3 what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete.

This epistle draws attention to general attributes of one who is a true Christian: happiness; holiness and security. A Christian's faithfulness as a new creature in Christ will result in these three general attributes when they are rooted in the true spiritually acquired and applied general doctrines of sound faith (a proper belief in Jesus, fully God and fully Man) which leads to obedience to His commands; which is evidence of our love to Him and other brothers and sisters in Christ. By our true faith being lead by His Spirit we will naturally as members of the body of Christ live unto Him and inwardly and outwardly express these attributes.

If I may sum up the precepts of what John declares in this epistle it could be stated in the manner:

A Christian can have security in his faith and salvation by "practicing righteousness". This is not a work of the flesh but a true desire of the spirit. What things we once desired to do in the flesh, we now abhor. And, those things we once hated in the flesh, we now desire to do. We no longer walk according to the desires of the flesh and the world; but now walk according to the Spirit and His desires.

This is not to say that a true born again believer will never sin, again because we battle against the flesh daily...we take up our cross daily and follow after Christ. We will fail from time to time. This is now a process of progressive sanctification...becoming more and more conformed to Christ-likeness and less and less worldly!

Furthermore, this is a true axiom: good works do not lead one to salvation; rather, salvation leads one to good works!

But, John also points out that the one who "practices lawlessness" is not a true born again believer. One who still desires in his heart to chase after the temporary pleasures of sin in the flesh and of the world.

These are evidenced by those who have "proclaimed faith" but have left the faith...or have deviated from the doctrines of the faith as taught by the Apostles, Prophets and in His Word. John declares these to be of their father Satan and antichrist!

So, brothers and sisters in Christ who thirst after righteousness; who desire to be obedient to the commands of Jesus Christ our Savior, our Lord, our God; who love Him and our brothers and sisters in Christ. Those who now experience happiness, holiness and security in their faith which is witnessed by the Holy Spirit who has sealed us until our time of glorification in Christ...

REJOICE! WE HAVE A HOPE AND SECURITY THAT WILL NOT FAIL!

As we come to the end of another year and begin a New Year, it is my hope that those in the body of Christ and those that will be brought into the body of Christ will take seriously the calling which was made on your life in Christ.

We are to take up our cross daily and follow Him. We are to show our love to Him by obedience to His commands. We are to be light and salt to a fallen world as we sojourn through it on our way to our true home with Jesus Christ. We are to go out into the world and make disciples...to share to the world His Gospel of Peace and Reconciliation. We are to be ready in and out of season to defend our faith and the hope we have.

We can only do these things by our study and meditation of His Word, the Bible.

He has given us His Word so that we may grow closer to Him; to learn how we should live our new life as His children; how we should treat our brothers and sisters in Christ and those in the world.

He has given us His Word for our benefit; and for our witness to the world.

I will continue to persevere in the faith by the guidance of His Word in the power of His Spirit.

Will you join me this New Year?

The time is near and we must be about the work of our Savior and Lord!

Is it possible for a man to desire to seek God Almighty; to desire to choose Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?

Can a man of his own volition actually DESIRE to be a follower of Jesus Christ...to take up his own cross every day and follow Him?

Does man of his own agency truly decide that he will become a disciple of Jesus Christ?

Can a man choose to have Jesus Christ be his Savior and his Lord?

Or, is man spiritually depraved in the sense that God must first regenerate a man's heart to make him capable to hear, understand and receive the Gospel of Jesus in order to answer God's calling affirmatively?

In John 3:3-8, Jesus tells Nicodemus that a man must be "born again" in order to enter the kingdom of God. He goes on to say that this a spiritual matter and that a man must be "born of the Spirit". He further explains that this is a work of the Holy Spirit and that the "wind" blows where it wishes and that one does not know where it comes from or where it goes and this is how it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.

John 3:3-8
New American Standard Bible
3 Jesus responded and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

4 Nicodemus *said to Him, “How can a person be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born, can he?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it is coming from and where it is going; so is everyone who has been born of the Spirit.”

Every human is born with a dead spirit. A person cannot "birth" or bring to life their dead spirit. Another must give that spirit life...to "birth" it into a living spirit. Only the Holy Spirit can bring to life the dead spirit of a man!

We look to what the Apostle Paul has written by inspiration of the Holy Spirit to the church in Ephesus. We see that we are all dead in our spirit until the Holy Spirit MAKES us alive!

Ephesians 2:1-9
New American Standard Bible
Made Alive in Christ
2 And you were dead in your offenses and sins, 2 in which you previously walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all previously lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the rest. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our wrongdoings, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the boundless riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

This is how it has been since God created man. Adam and Eve, the parents of all humanity, had "free will". God gave Adam sovereignty over the Earth. He was required to show his obedience in a very specific manner...that Adam would not eat of the fruit of the tree in the midst of the garden...the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Adam was given Eve as a wife and helpmate in tending to the garden. Eve was informed of God's command to Adam. She also had the agency of "free will" and chose to disobey when she was tempted by the serpent to eat the fruit of the tree so that "she would be like God".

Adam was beguiled by Eve to eat of the fruit and did so. Their spirits immediately died and their bodies began to die.

Even Adam and Eve, who had walked with God in the garden and had a close relationship with Him...even they were not good and chose to disobey God!

And, did they seek out God in repentance and confession of their sin of rebellion? NO. They ran and hid from Him! God SOUGHT THEM OUT! Did they repent and confess when God came to them? NO. They blamed the serpent and one another...Adam even placed the blame on God because the woman He gave to Adam had given him the fruit!

No, we are no better than Adam and Eve. We didn't seek after God and we didn't have the "good" in us to desire Him. Our heart was a heart of stone and our "free will" was to choose to disobey God at every turn. God regenerated our hearts and brought life to our spirit!

Man's spirit is dead.

And, only God can give us a heart of flesh and make our spirit alive...to regenerate our heart to hear, understand, receive and affirmatively answer His call to our Savior and Lord.
