Hello, dear friends and supporters! There is a lot happening here at Bakers at the Border as summer begins to wind down.

Just like families in the U.S., back-to-school season is here for us too. Alejandro heads back to school this coming Monday, and he is excited to begin at a new school with a new teacher. We are thankful for this fresh start and would truly appreciate your prayers—that he would have a successful, productive year, build good friendships, and continue to grow in confidence and wisdom.

We also want to share an encouraging update from Grace Church Rosarito. Grace Church is a growing group of Jesus followers who want others to know more about Jesus and His Word, the Bible. We worship through interactive study, music, and simply spending time together as we learn what it means to love God and love others.

We are slowly settling into our new home, and it has been a joy to see this community taking shape. As summer wraps up and routines return, we are looking forward to seeing our Sunday gatherings continue to grow. Please pray that people in Rosarito who are searching for hope, community, and truth would find a welcoming place at Grace Church.

Hello dear friends and supporters—thank you for walking with us.

We’ve just returned from a much‑needed holiday in southern Mexico, and it turned out to be more than just a break for our family. Somewhere between the long walks, quiet moments, and laughter with Mindy and Alejandro, I found myself asking the Lord, “What do You want from us in this next season, now that we’ve caught our breath a little?”

As we listened, one of the first things He pressed on my heart was simple but humbling: get moving and take better care of myself and Mindy. Ministry is a marathon, not a sprint, and we sensed God reminding us that our health matters if we’re going to keep showing up for the long haul.

He also nudged me about my coaching certification. I didn’t realize He cared about something that felt so “professional,” but I’m beginning to believe He has a plan for it. I’d love to start offering coaching to anyone following our journey—both to serve you and to log some hours toward my accreditation.

We also felt Him urging us to keep investing in the pastors and servants already in our circle through counseling and development tools. Since coming home, I’ve stepped into establishing Elders and Deacons at Grace Church and building better systems there. I thought I’d wait longer, but it became clear God wanted that moved up.

There’s also a deep ache in our hearts: we need more Mexicans in our lives. It’s easy to stay in an American bubble in our expat church community, but we know He’s called us to a truly bilingual Spanish/English church and to prepare for planting another Spanish‑speaking church soon. He’s bringing people; we’re praying for growth, especially new gatherers—and we just love Mexicans.

Finally, Mindy and I have been praying about offering workshops in local churches on spiritual warfare and trauma healing. Talking it through with our friends Mario and Silvia after we returned only confirmed that this is a direction God is pointing us later this year.

Hello, friends!

It's been a busy and blessed season here at Bakers at the Border, and we wanted to take a moment to share what's on our hearts.

Alejandro just completed 3rd grade and we are thankful for the many things he has learned and ways he has grown. We are looking forward to 4th grade at a new school in hopes that it will be a better fit and a brighter experience for him.

Mindy will also be stepping back for a season of rest and to focus on family. That drive from Rosarito Beach to San Diego multiple times a week, on top of her work responsibilities, home life, and ministry duties, has been a lot to carry. For the foreseeable future, she'll be focusing on rest and recovery — and we know she's earned it. She is very blessed to work for the Glenner Centers, who has allowed her to maintain her position as Director of Education and have the time off she needs.

As for me, work continues to go and grow like gangbusters. I count it such a blessing to do what I love from a home office a couple thousand miles away, while staying connected to this ministry that means so much to us.

And finally — what a gift it was to host our brother, Pastor Martín Guerena, executive director of Vision Latin America! He spent time with us planning joint projects between Bakers at the Border and Vision Latin America. We can't wait to share more as those plans take shape.

It's been a busy season for the Bakers, south of the border, and we can't wait to share all that God has been doing this summer in the weeks ahead. But first and foremost on our hearts today is our sister Gabby.

Gabby is the wife of our dear brother Ruben, who went to be with the Lord two years ago. Since Ruben's passing, she has faced some heavy challenges — and by God's grace, she has weathered many of them and come out stronger on the other side.

Right now, Gabby is walking through some difficult health issues, including a painful bout with shingles. We're asking our Bakers at the Border family to lift her up in prayer — for physical healing, for comfort, and for God's continued blessing and guidance as she keeps navigating life without Ruben by her side.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

Where does ministry actually happen?

Not just inside church buildings… and you don't have to cross a border to be part of what God is doing.

We've seen it in the most ordinary places:
🌳 At the park
🏘️ Around the neighborhood
🛒 In the aisles of our local Calimax grocery store
🌮 At the taco stand
🍽️ Sitting around kitchen tables
💬 In everyday conversations that quietly turn into something sacred

These are the moments when a safe space is created — someone listens, someone prays, someone simply shows up with God's love… and a heart opens. A struggle gets shared. Heaven leans in.

Here's the truth: He's already placed YOU somewhere on purpose.
✨ Your neighborhood.
✨ Your circle.
✨ Your table.

So we want to ask you:
👉 Where have you seen God move in your everyday life?
👉 Where might He be inviting you to step in?

You don't need a passport. You don't need a title. You don't need a stage. You just need a willing heart and the courage to be present where you already are.

**Bakers at the Border – Standing with Cuba**

As we continue to lock arms with our brothers and sisters at Vision Latin America, we ask you to lift up Cuba in prayer. Here's what's happening on the ground right now:

Cuba's national electrical grid is growing more unstable by the day. Prolonged scheduled and unscheduled power outages are hitting the country daily — Havana included. These blackouts are disrupting water supply, lighting, refrigeration, and communication, leaving families without the basics so many of us take for granted. On top of that, a serious fuel shortage is choking transportation and creating long, exhausting lines at gas stations across the island.

On May 13, 2026, reports came in of widespread protests throughout Havana as citizens cried out over the relentless blackouts. While these demonstrations have not been directed at the U.S. or American citizens, accounts indicate that some have been met with aggressive police repression against Cuban protestors.

Please join us in praying:

- For protection over the Cuban people, especially the many believers walking out their faith in the middle of hardship
- For God's provision — light, water, food, fuel, and peace — for families in need
- For wisdom and courage for pastors and churches serving their communities
- That the Lord would continue to lead His people and reveal Himself as Provider and Sustainer
- For peaceful resolution and restraint in the streets

¡Feliz Día de las Madres!

In Mexico, Mother's Day always falls on May 10 — and let us tell you, it is a BIG deal. Across the country, moms are celebrated, spoiled, and appreciated to the highest degree. As it should be.

This past Sunday, we got to witness it firsthand in El Zorrillo, not far from Rosarito Beach. Our dear friends Mario and Silvia, along with the family at Iglesia Monte de Jehová, threw a beautiful celebration honoring the mamás of their community — with games, laughter, gifts, and (our personal favorite part) the men of the church rolling up their sleeves to cook fish tacos for everyone. The mothers got to sit, relax, and be served — exactly the way it should be on their special day.

There is something so powerful about watching a community pour love into the women who hold everything together. The mothers. The grandmothers. The aunties. The spiritual moms. The ones who feed us, pray for us, and carry us when we can't carry ourselves.

To every mom in El Zorrillo, in Rosarito, in Hilliard, Dublin, and everywhere in between — thank you. We see you. We celebrate you. We are grateful for you.

And a huge thank you to Mario, Silvia, and the Iglesia Monte de Jehová family for letting Bakers at the Border be part of such a joyful day. Days like this remind us why we do what we do.

🙏 A Ministry Update from Bakers at the Border 🙏

A little over a year ago, we introduced you to Victor and Juana in Puebla, Mexico — faithful servants launching their 4th community group and sustaining their ministry through a small handcrafted apron business. Their beautiful creations fund both their family and their efforts to bring the hope of Christ to an area that desperately needs it.

At that time, their equipment was failing and material costs were skyrocketing. Because of God's grace and YOUR generosity, they were able to replace their sewing machine and keep their outreach going. Thank you. 🧵❤️

Fast forward to today — Victor and Juana are pressing forward in incredible ways! They are actively working to plant a church in Taxco AND nurturing a home church in San Pedro de la Jolla. God is moving!

But they need our help again.

Victor is in desperate need of a vehicle. Without one — and unable to use taxis — he simply cannot get to the various groups and churches he serves. He's missing services and the people who depend on him.

And while working to save for a car, Juana was involved in an accident and was injured. 💔

Bakers at the Border has made a significant donation toward their needs — but the gap remains. If you feel led to give, every dollar goes directly to supporting Victor, Juana, and the communities they serve.

🙏 CUBA PRAYER UPDATE | Every Saturday we lift up the island of Cuba — here's the latest from the field.

Our brothers and colleagues — Martin, Mariano, Samuel, and Luis — recently traveled to Cuba to offer assistance, prayer, and support on the ground. We are grateful to report that everyone is home safely and the mission was accomplished. The Mission Team is united, happy, and ready for whatever God has next.

The Church in Cuba is strong. More than 200 churches have been impacted through this work, and the body of Christ there remains focused and resilient — actively helping one another and their local communities even in the most difficult of circumstances. But there is a general despair among the Cuban people as they face deep fear and uncertainty about what comes next geopolitically. The need for prayer and presence has never been greater.

If you feel led to help, support can be directed through our sister organization, Vision Latin America (VLA). Through the 5 Loaves & 2 Fishes initiative, VLA is meeting people where they are — providing food, medicine, and essential supplies to those in need. Every gift makes a difference for a people who are waiting, hoping, and trusting God through what comes next.

We see it happen all the time — God showing up right in the middle of real life.

Recently, we had the honor of sitting with two friends who were walking through a difficult place in their ministry relationship.

There was tension. Misunderstanding. Hurt. Unforgiveness.

Together, we slowed down. We prayed. We listened. We gently walked through what was really going on beneath the surface.

And something beautiful happened — they repented. They forgave one another. And little by little, the distance began to shrink.

That's just who Jesus is. Psalm 147:3 reminds us — "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

He sees what's hidden. He restores what feels broken. He leads people back to one another — back to unity. He doesn't waste the hard moments. He redeems them.

Getting to witness even the very first steps of that kind of healing? It's sacred. It's holy ground.

We believe God wants to bring that same healing to ministry relationships all along the border and beyond. Wounds that have gone unspoken. Tensions that have been buried. Walls that have gone up between people who are called to serve together.

**Jehovah Rapha — the God Who Heals — is still at work.**
