God’s plan to fix the world is through broken hearts not ballistic heat.

The word gospel means good news.
But not just any good news.
It is the announcement that a great victory has been won for you.

It is the kind of news that, once heard, changes everything.

In June 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas received news that transformed their lives:
“The war is over. The Union has won. President Lincoln has declared you free.”

Arriving two years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, the message delivered by Major General Gordon Granger changed the lives of all who heard it because it announced a freedom that had already been won for them.

That is why it is so tragic that Christianity was ever used to justify slavery, segregation, lynching, discrimination, or the oppression of Black Americans.

Because the Christian faith tells a very different story and offers a very different hope.

God is the great Liberator King.
Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God has defeated the slave masters of sin, death, and the devil. Christ has declared the guilty righteous, the condemned forgiven, and the enslaved free.

The Gospel is God’s Juneteenth proclamation to the world:
The battle has been won.
Your chains have been broken.
Your sins are forgiven.
The King has declared you free.
