6. Recruit leaders directly. Invite followers to join you, more generally.

One must seek out the leaders he wants on his team.

Don’t leave the leadership of your ministry or event to a “y’all come” sort of general invitation.

That will work for the rank and file of the ministry initiative, but the leaders must be hand chosen
and directly recruited; the earlier the better.

(Mark 3:13-19)

I believe a part of social media’s attraction to people is its ability to create “micro-fame.”

A person can have his or her photos, opinions, activities, & associations seen by a microcosm of society, giving the person a sense of fame, if only on a limited scale (2,200 for me).

5. One’s leadership ability never exceeds his personal discipleship in Christ Jesus.

We have all seen leaders who have a façade of leadership skills or charismatic personality, but are hollow inside.

Their relationship with the Lord was lacking, thus exposing their lack of character and a shallow depth of spiritual development.

The best leadership springs from a pure, sincere, and Spirit filled heart.
(I Corinthians 3:10-14)

Let's be genuine, complete, and mature leaders through continual devotion to Christ and growth in Him.

4. “See Me, hear Me, and experience Me, in each other.”

Fred heard this uttered
as a prophecy during the Jesus Movement in the early 1970s, and it has become a foundational principle for how NGL works.

We believe God leads leaders through the men in their groups, through their leadership colleagues, and
through their mentors.

(II Timothy 2:2)

Let's make time to see, hear, and experience our Lord in His people who surround us.

Reflection on Success:

People who chase success and eventually experience it, often find it to be terribly hollow. It doesn’t satisfy.

That’s because they’re actually hungry for significance. Success is a poor substitute for significance.

Change the object of your pursuit.

3. Loyalty is highly valued, despite momentary setbacks, crises, and failure.

There is a long line of us who would have given up on some of our colleagues, but Fred refused to do so.

I could, but will not mention names. Fred has demonstrated an undying loyalty to many who made terrible mistakes, went to prison, destroyed their marriages, and more, but were drawn back into the care of their brothers and were eventually restored to faithful service.

(Proverbs 20:6, 17:14)

Let's be loyal to those with whom we serve and lead, especially through their days of difficulty.
