We often ask God for blessings, wanting the outcomes without the giver. But His blessing isn't a package; it's His presence. Are we after the gift, or the face of God turned towards us?

Are you putting a period where God put a comma? 🛑

Think back over what you prayed for this week. A shaky job, a marriage that's gone quiet, a kid who isn't doing well, or a physical healing. Those are beautiful, necessary prayers, and God hears every single one of them.

But if you look at the map of your prayers, how big is the circle? For most of us, it’s about the size of our own front door.

In Psalm 67, the psalmist takes the most famous blessing in Israel’s history, "May God bless us and make His face shine upon us", and does something shocking. He doesn't end the sentence there. He welds on a comma and a massive purpose clause:

“...so that Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.”

When we ask God to bless our families, our health, and our careers, but we leave off the "so that," we haven't actually finished praying. We've just stopped talking.

He was not a man with bad theology. He knew exactly who God was. That was the problem. Have you ever prayed a prayer you would have hated to see answered?

You can do everything God asks and still hope He fails. That’s the shocking truth behind Jonah chapter 4.

Jonah obeyed God’s call, preached the sermon, and saw an entire city turn to God—and he was absolutely furious about it.

Why? Because Jonah had decided who counted. He was perfectly fine with God’s mercy when it protected him, but outraged when that same mercy was given to his enemies.

Is there someone in your life you pray about instead of for?
Do you quietly celebrate when things go wrong for them, even just for a split second?
Have you built a respectable "booth" of busyness or Bible studies to hide your resentment?
When we hold onto our anger, we aren't keeping them captive—we are keeping ourselves in the desert.

This week, take the hardest 10 seconds of your week. Bring that name before God and say: "I want you to save them."

Paul had a layover in Athens. He got run out of two cities and ended up stuck in a third, waiting on his friends to catch up. Look at what he did with dead time.

Phase one was reconnaissance. He walked the city and took a hard look at what people were worshiping. He read their poets. He found an altar to a god nobody could name and filed it away. He did not boycott and he did not hide. He asked questions in the marketplace every single day and listened long enough to hear the answers.

Then he crossed the bridge. And when he got to the other side, he did not soften the landing. He pointed to a grave that did not hold.

Here is the part worth sitting with. All that bridge-building was not a way around the offense. It was how he made sure the thing they finally rejected was the gospel and not him.

Three responses came back. Some laughed. Some wanted another conversation. Some believed. Nobody in that room knew which group they were in until he opened his mouth.

Save this one for the week. Then go ask somebody what they actually believe.

Paul walked into their city. He didn't start a culture war, shout them down, or retreat to a safe space where everyone already agreed with him. Instead, he did something revolutionary: he studied their culture to build a bridge.

Paul didn't quote Scripture to people who didn't believe it. He walked their streets, read their poets, and found common ground at an altar inscribed "To an Unknown God". But he didn't build bridges just to keep things comfortable, he built them to carry the hard truth across.

Ever feel like a **“Some Assembly Required”** project? 🛠️

We’ve all been there, opening a box only to find a million parts and a complicated manual. In our walk with Christ, we are often the same: works in progress, striving for a "completeness" that feels impossible to reach on our own.

But here’s the truth: spiritual maturity is **not a DIY project**.

In Colossians 4:2-6, Paul gives us the "assembly instructions" for a life that truly honors God:

* **Devote yourself to prayer:** This isn’t just a random command; it’s the key to achieving maturity. Prayer isn't about getting what we want; it's about aligning our hearts with what God wants.
* **Stay alert with thanksgiving:** Spiritual drowsiness is real. We have to stay watchful so that the "old self"—anger, malice, and slander—doesn't creep back in. Instead, we fuel our prayers with gratitude for what God has already done.
* **Pray for open doors:** Even Paul, from a prison cell, didn't pray for an exit—he prayed for an **opportunity** to speak the mystery of Christ.
* **Season your speech with salt:** We are called to act wisely toward those outside the faith, making sure our words are always gracious—no exceptions.

Remember, we were all "outsiders" once. It was God's kindness and mercy that saved us, and that same kindness should appear in how we treat every single person we meet today.

**Stop trying to "assemble" your faith in your own strength.** Tap into the power of God through prayer and watch Him work.

There's a face on your feed that makes your chest tighten. You know exactly who it is.

Our default move is a vague prayer for "wisdom," which is really just a religious complaint dressed up. It lets us feel prayerful while keeping contempt perfectly intact.

Paul gives us something harder. Name them. Bring that specific person to God on purpose. Then thank God for them, and not the polite kind through gritted teeth. Find one thing that's actually true about them, not a compliment about their politics. You cannot hold someone in contempt and hold them up at the same time. One of the two has to give.

Then push past your own comfort and ask for their salvation.

You may still disagree with every policy they have. But the grip loosens.
