Chalfant Society

Chalfant Society Photo section includes the powerpoint presentation made to the Coshocton Genealogy Society in 2009. Founded in 1808 by Mordecai Chalfant.

The first Methodist church in Coshocton County and the second Methodist church in the State of Ohio. In the 1980s Chalfant Church was placed on both the national and the state register of historic buildings. From its founding it has sent out over 16 preachers into the ministry.

Rita Parsons generously donated this beautiful painting of Chalfant Church to the Chalfant Society . It was painted by Harry Berkdoll in 1981. Mr Berkdoll was the husband of Evelyn McMorris Berkdoll (great aunt of Rita Parsons). Evelyn’s mother Mrs. G. H. (May) McMorris was an active member of Chalfant Church. She passed away in 1928 and is buried in the Chalfant cemetery. We are very grateful to Rita for gifting the painting.

Rob Conrad recently donated his time, skill and energy to install a new metal roof on the picnic shelter at Chalfant Church. The Chalfant Society is very appreciative of his work and dedication to maintaining the church property.
