Chalfant Society

Chalfant Society Photo section includes the powerpoint presentation made to the Coshocton Genealogy Society in 2009. Founded in 1808 by Mordecai Chalfant.

The first Methodist church in Coshocton County and the second Methodist church in the State of Ohio. In the 1980s Chalfant Church was placed on both the national and the state register of historic buildings. From its founding it has sent out over 16 preachers into the ministry.

CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER

Our annual Christmas program will be held on Sunday, December 14, at 2:00 p.m., following a carry-in dinner beginning at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Donna Edsall from Muskingum Church will share a Christmas message. We invite you to join us as we celebrate the joy of Christ’s birth with carols, fellowship, and holiday treats.

We remember Jeanette Croy Border, who passed away in September. She grew up near Chalfant Church, which her ancestors helped to found.

We also remember Chris Kirker, who passed away in March. He grew up in the community and attended Chalfant Church in his youth. Chris composed and recorded a song about the church, which will be shared by his brother, Lloyd Kirker, during the Christmas program.
The Chalfant Society deeply appreciates everyone who helps care for the property through repairs, mowing, and donations of time, money, and materials.

We are especially grateful to the Country Kids 4-H Club members and advisors, who brighten the church grounds each spring with beautiful flowers.

Our annual September homecoming was well attended, and we are thankful for all who came.

This year marks forty-five years since the community united to save the church from being demolished.

• Herb and Bonnie Stevens celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a large family gathering at the church in April.
• The Country Kids 4-H Club beautified the church yard with lovely flowers in the spring.
• September’s annual homecoming featured an excellent program after a delicious meal.
• We are grateful to all who maintained the property through repairs, mowing, and donations of time, money, and materials.
Chalfant Church continues to be an important beacon in our community reminding us of our Christian heritage.
