Sunday May 17th Celebration Koinonia Farm through the Eyes of Pebble Folks: Then and Now

Led by Rev. Susan Manning

Barbara Atkinson with Gary and Jennifer Culp (on Zoom) present this Sunday’s program about Koinonia Farm in Georgia. The name Koinonia, a Greek word which means “community, fellowship” exemplifies the principle of its name. Founded in 1942 by white Baptist minister Clarence Jordan and his wife Florence, they envisioned white and black people working together in harmony and treated as equals. As the Civil Rights movement began to grow a few years later, Koinonia Farm became the target of racist fear among white folks in SW Georgia. They were targeted with dangerous violence, threats, investigations and raids by the K*K. Boycotts of their farm products and retribution for townspeople who supplied them and forced them to shift to mail-order goods, shipping to more supportive buyers and Pebble people have been recently ordering as well.

The Culps lived and volunteered at Koinonia Farm in 1981/2 for a year. Gary will tell the story of their sojourn. This included acquaintance with local residents Jimmy and Roslynn Carter, and an invitation that led to connection between Koinonia and the newly-founded Habitat for Humanity. They will join us on Zoom from Sayulita in Mexico and Vashon Island WA.

Barbara and her sister Sue Atkinson visited Koinonia Farm this past January (taking the Midnight Train to/from Georgia) and were warmly welcomed. She will speak about their visit and show photos. Her talk will also touch on connections with other communities such as Bryn Gweled Homesteads, where Barbara resides. BG was founded in 1940 with a similar vision of racial equity and living in harmony in Bucks County during that era of change and resistance in the Northeast. BGers have been purchasing Koinonia products for 8 decades.

APRIL 5th CELEBRATION – EASTER SUNDAY AT PEBBLE HILL

An Interfaith Community Church

BELOVED SPEAKER, TOM LEGERE, Ph.D SPEAKS ON “THE GREAT MANIFESTATION”
This Easter Sunday at Pebble, the community will be honored by a return visit from Tom Legere, one of our favorite speakers, a great friend to many, and a faculty member of the School of Sacred Ministries.
Tom’s talk is entitled “The Great Manifestation,” and here’s his summary:
Easter Sunday, celebrating the “resurrection” of Jesus, is the central feast of Christianity. It is held, officially, although not in importance given to it, as the most important feast in Christianity. But what does the “resurrection” really mean? Is it literal or is it a metaphor? What is its relevance for us today?
It is a story about hope, a story about our destiny as part of human evolution. It is about confidence that all of humanity is part of something truly cosmic in scale. It is a reason for us to joyfully rise each day as we say “Yes” to being a crucial part of evolution!
You are invited to “Take Hold” as God lifts us out of darkness and shows us the way!

Tom’s Bio: With a background that includes degrees in philosophy, theology and spirituality, in addition to a Ph.D. in psychology, Dr. Legere offers a background that is truly universal. Ordained a priest at the Vatican, Tom is an author of three books, a frequent speaker on television and lately appearing on podcasts, and with his own page on spiritual growth, Tom was a member of the faculty of the Pebble School of Sacred Ministries since its very beginning. He has lectured on three continents and taught graduate students over a 51 year career. He was awarded a lifetime achievement award in teaching from Fordham University.

Reverend Susan Manning will lead the Celebration on Sunday, February 15th bringing her creatiive energies!

Imagine Lent, Ramadan, Nirvana Day, Chinese New Year (Year of the Fire Horse), and Valentine's Day (oh, and did I mention an Annular Eclipse) all happening within a week. Talk about some crazy cool and sacred energies. Let's enjoy a less frigid, non-snowy Sunday late morning and discuss it all amongst ourselves, and we know that whoever shows up is supposed to be here (and on Zoom)! Be there or be Square!!"

NOVEMBER 2nd, 2025 CELEBRATION – TRANSCENDING TUMULTUOUS TIMES

An Interfaith Community Church
Join us this Sunday at Pebble as we create a safe, sacred space to support each other as we navigate the uncertain waters we find ourselves in now.
This talk by Rev. Edie Weinstein will encourage us to explore the ‘window of tolerance’, which is staying in an emotional and mental state where we can handle world events without being so triggered that we lash out or shut down. We will celebrate ‘joy as an act of resistance’, finding pockets of joy in the midst of turmoil and come up with actionable steps to support Beloved Community.

Edie Weinstein, MSW, LSW is a licensed social worker, therapist, interfaith minister, journalist, author and speaker who most recently introduced us to the wonderful Dr. Yvonne Kaye, the recipient of the 2025 Peace Award.

PEBBLE HILL INTERFAITH CHURCH
PRESENTS TOM LEGERE, PhD

SEPTEMBER 14, 2025
320 Edison-Furlong Rd, Doylestown

WRESTLING WITH GOD

Our guest speaker on Sunday, September 14, Dr. Tom Legere, is well known to many of us. Ordained a priest at the Vatican in 1969, Tom was an author, a television and radio presenter, a retreat leader on three continents and, upon leaving Church ministry in 1992, a professor at six different universities. In 2014, he was awarded a lifetime achievement award in teaching at Fordham University. However, his two favorite things that he has done is to be on the faculty of the School of Sacred Ministries at Pebble Hill Church for every class, and also... to have been a dancer on American Bandstand!

The theme of Tom’s talk comes from the Biblical episode of Jacob wrestling with God throughout an entire night and living to tell about it.

During our time together, our old friend Tom will share some of the details of his own personal "mano a mano" with "God", since several people have asked him to do so. He realizes that this was only his journey, and that some of the details will inevitably be different than your personal journey, but that the Hero’s journey seems to be quite similar across religions and across no religions.

If Moses, the Buddha, Jesus and Mohammed all had to duke it out with "God", why should we be any exception?

Ultimately that which is most personal is most universal.

Join us in the Red Barn at 10:30am or on Zoom.
Visitors are most welcome.
