Matthew 22:15-22

The lesson from today’s scripture comes down to this - To what degree and in what ways are we giving to God what is God’s? Where is the evidence that we are rendering to God? Luke 10: 25-28 says that an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus and wanted to know what was required from God. Jesus asked him how he interpreted the scriptures. The expert answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.”

Jesus tells us that the most important commandment was to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We give our entire being to God. And Jesus adds to this, that we are to also love one another.

Matthew 22:1-14

This story that Jesus shares says a lot about the difference between believing in Jesus by just showing up, and really following Jesus and putting on the wedding robe. It is the difference between being a fan of Jesus and being a committed follower.

God has set up a spiritual feast for anyone who’s ready to join in. He’s inviting you to share in that joy with Him. But if you don’t take the kingdom seriously, you won’t be able to enjoy the “feast” of the kingdom. Whether you come to the feast is up to you. If you don’t take the kingdom of God seriously, you’ll never be able to enter. You’ll always find an excuse to stay away. But if you give the King’s invitation the importance it deserves, willing to believe it and obey it, then you’ll enjoy the blessings of that kingdom forever.

The rare and beautiful experiences of divine revelation are moments of special gifts. Each of us, however, lives each day with special gifts which are a part of our very being, and life is a process of discovering and developing these God-given gifts within each one of us.
