We’re sharing throwback photos throughout the summer, leading up to our 175th anniversary on August 5.

The current church sanctuary was designed by FBC member, Fred H. Greil. Ground was broken for our current church sanctuary on March 4, 1956, and dedicated on August 18, 1957.

For nearly 70 years, this building has served as the heart of First Baptist Downers Grove as we gather weekly to worship through prayer, singing, and the reading of God's Word.

We’re sharing throwback photos throughout the summer, leading up to our 175th anniversary on August 5.

Our story began in 1851, but one of the earliest images we have of First Baptist Downers Grove is from 1872, after the original church building was destroyed by fire in 1871. In 1906, the church building was remodeled and rededicated.

Now, our Grove Student ministry gathers in the beloved "Chapel" as well as Downers Grove Christian School classes. Recently, the Chapel provided a space to hold worship services during the Sanctuary Refresh Project.
