Day 2- Detroit. The team was split up today with Lisa staying back with the fine arts camp snd then working in a community garden and the rest heading back to central Detroit for more painting. Dinner was provided by our host church and then a presentation by the CDC. Central Detroit Christian is the non- profit we have teamed up for our various projects this week. Our discussion tonight focused on the disparity of education. After much discussion it was decided that the only answer to this very complicated issue is prayer !

Monday was an amazing day in Detroit. Team St. Luke was assigned to house painting and while we were all excited to do this I don't think any of us expected to be on the receiving end of gifts of giggles and smiles from our new friends Shelby and Bella. After a fantastic dinner of meatballs from Megan Anne 's secret recipe we headed to a discussion on racism. Opened all of our eyes to some things we hadn't thought about. Amazing day.

Megan, Marty, Lauren and Kevin, along with two of the WPC kids went to Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries' (DRMM) Oasis Men's home where they worked with Chef Don Thrasher to make and serve lunch, organize the fridge, and clean the kitchen. Chef Don is himself a graduate of Oasis House's program, and after getting his degree from culinary school, found a full time job as a Head Chef and still works at Oasis pro-bono on a regular basis. He was a really amazing man and his story was really incredible!
