The Old Rugged Cross Church

The Old Rugged Cross Church The birthplace of "The Old Rugged Cross" The building was built in 1862 as a hops barn; renovated into The First Methodist Episcopal Church of Pokagon in 1876.

Rev. Bennard introduced his hymn at a revival in that church in January, 1913. The following year, the congregation moved into the former Baptist Church across Kansas St. and sold the old church to a local farmer, who turned it back into a barn for the next 85 years.
