"Standing on the Rock"

"Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord Himself, is the Rock eternal" ~ Isaiah 26:4

The phrase "Rock eternal" translates roughly to "Rock of ages", a title many of us know for Jesus from various hymns. But do you trust in Him when the going gets tough? Do you stand on the firm foundation that He represents in your life even when your world is shaking? Do you seek Him even when He seems far from you and your sin has caused you to feel shame and guilt and separation from Him? Do you turn to Him as your way out when you are overwhelmed with temptation? The more we try to trust in literally anything and anyone else in our lives, the more we see that only Christ is truly the solid rock for us. This week at Friendship, we will talk about what "Standing on the Rock" means in the various seasons of life and their trials. We will talk about some specific steps you can take to stand on His foundation. You don't want to miss this message, so join us and be ready to hear from the Holy Spirit!

The Mysteries of God - Children of God

"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him" ~ 1 John 3:1

There have been many times when my children have openly doubted the love my wife and I have for them. It's generally based on circumstances and we are told, "If you really loved me you'd give me what I want". As any parent knows, that is neither true nor a successful manipulation attempt. Our love for them is not bound by circumstance, but is a direct result of them being our children. One day, they will understand how great was their parents' love for them! I imagine that God looks at us the same way. His love for us is unconditional and a direct result of our being His children, yet circumstances still cause us to doubt it at times. All we need to do is look at what He's done for us to be reminded. There are billions of people on our planet, however, who don't know His love. They don't know that through Jesus we can become children of God, adopted to receive all His love. Is Jesus waiting for them to know it to return? Is it up to us to make sure we tell them? We'll answer these questions and more this week at Friendship in a message called "Children of God". How does our Lord view the little ones among us? What can we do to help more come to know Him as Father? Join us to find out!

Mysteries of God - My God, My God

"And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross" ~ Colossians 2:15

Our enemy the devil is referred to in Revelation as "the accuser of our brethren". We give him the name "Satan" because of the Greek word satanos which means "adversary" in the New Testament. He is 100% against us all the time. The problem is that we have given him plenty of ammunition against us. When he accuses us before the ultimate Judge, we have no defense; we are guilty as charged. The devil doesn't have to perjure himself because the evidence is in his favor! But because of what God has done for us in Christ, canceling the charges against us by paying our debt in full, the devil and his minions are disarmed. The cross looked like their triumph, but it was actually God's and ours. Because of His work on the cross, we have the right to become children of God, born again as new creations. This week at Friendship, we'll talk about what our Lord went through to make that a reality for us, and we'll specifically focus on one of His final statements on the cross, which began with, "My God, My God". Did He really believe God was forsaking Him? Did the Father actually forsake Him? Or was it all part of a grander plan? Join us this week and find out!

We will also be celebrating the Lord's Supper at both services this weekend. As a reminder, all who have accepted Christ as Savior and committed to follow Him as Lord are welcome at His table.
