Those in the Delaware area who can donate please do, those who can't the food bank has resources. Please be patient with us as we collect information to help the community at large. Feel free to share resources as well, I'll do my best to get them posted as I have the time and energy.
Right now I know of three churches in the Smyrna, De area that are helping as much as they can. If you need their information message me and I can get that to you. Do not go hungry, there are people who can help.
As we head into the busy holiday season, we expect an unprecedented surge in demand for assistance in the coming weeks. Last week, it was announced that November SNAP benefits (formerly food stamps) will not be issued until the government reopens. This is uncharted territory for all of us. We have never operated in an environment where the SNAP benefit safety net was not available to our neighbors.
We are preparing now for this surge. If you are able to help, our most-needed food items include:
🔸Canned meats
🔸Peanut butter & jelly
🔸Hearty canned soups
🔸Rice
🔸Oatmeal and cereal
🔸Shelf-stable milk
🔸Canned fruits/vegetables
🔸Snack items like granola bars, fruit snacks, apple sauce and microwave popcorn
🔸Boxed macaroni and cheese
🔸Diapers
🔸Formula
