Some people visit the graves of loved ones once or twice a year. Others never come, because they’ve moved away or the family itself has died out.

On Memorial Day, many people come to lay wreaths, put up a flag, or plant flowers.

Just know that our nation’s bravest are not forgotten. Not just on this day - but every day.

God Bless America. 🇺🇸

On this clear, brisk day - I finally got to put the wreath on the Gatehouse. Festive, don’t you think?

The grounds look their pre-Winter best. Only leaves on the ground have come from the neighbors!

We’ve put the lights in the windows to chase away the chill. All we need now is a light dusting of snow to complete the picture.

It’s a very sad day for Orchard Street Cemetery.

Sometime between 6 pm Sunday night, and 8 am Monday morning, the cemetery grounds were vandalized. Not just slightly, but extremely.

Nine (9) historic headstones were brutally knocked over. Even our lovingly tended bed of chrysanthemums was brutally attacked. It was shocking, to say the least. We’re angry, and we’re sad.

What kind of people would do such things?! Our cemetery is completely maintained by a volunteer group, who do great things on a shoestring. We’re in rough shape, people.

Pulling a rabbit out of a hat is not going to work this time. We need serious money to rectify this situation. The stones must be righted, there’s no question of not doing that. It’s just the cost.

If you can help out with a check, please send it to Orchard Street Cemetery, 130 Berry Street, Dover, NJ. 07801.

Here are some really heartbreaking pictures of the damage inflicted by some really awful people. Pray that they catch them.

And here are the long-awaited photos!!

And here are the long-awaited photos!!

It’s been a long and hot summer. While most of us stayed inside where it was cool, loyal VOLUNTEERS continue to maintain the ever-growing grass and w**ds. This was definitely the year for prize-winning greenery!

Here are a few shots of work being done this week. The rock wall on the west wall was completely covered by vines and young trees. Had to call in the big guns like w**d whackers, mowers, and chain saws! Lot of work. Photo attached.

Litter patrol is in high (no pun intended) gear, and trespassers coming with alcoholic beverages and leaving the empties behind. (See attached photo)

Plus regular mowing when time and weather allows. See accompanying pix.

As always, Orchard Street continues to be in desperate financial straits. Please consider making a donation to buy gas for the mowers, etc., RSVP to this page, and we’ll contact you. Or come and help mow! We’ll really appreciate it!

With the temperatures being so high, not lots of visitors to admire our landscaped grounds and cleaned headstones.

This stone is very similar to one of our most widely viewed stones. The photo shows that theirs has much more detail remaining.

When the weather improves (gets below 90 degrees!) do stop in and see the stunning progress that’s been made. And as always, if you cannot physically volunteer, please consider a monetary donation instead.

The grass has not yet started to grow - and that’s a good thing! And no snow - doubly good as our snowblower is on the fritz 😞.

Cemetery looks good. Anxious for the warmth of Spring to push up the mums around the flagpole.

Here are a few pix from yesterday. Please note the one photo which shows just 2 of the many stones in dire need of repair. They need attention before they disintegrate further.

To make a donation, mail a check to Orchard Street Cemetery, c/o Keith Titus, 130 Berry Street, Dover, NJ. 07801. Every dollar will be put to good use.. Thanks.

Hang in there. Wash your hands. Most importantly, continue to wear your mask. 😷

Another cold day (27) in Dover with no snow. Everything is quiet - not a peep anywhere. Too cold for kids to be outside, or workers with power tools. Peaceful. ⛄️
