Dear Friends,

In our series within the series on Ecclesiastes, we will continue to consider the “habits of the heart.” Our Lord has graciously given practices that are paths to help us to walk in His ways during our few days under the sun. They are not duties to check off a list, but devotions designed to drive the Gospel deeper into our lives. They are divine antidotes to awaken us and to ward off the dullness that so easily creeps into our hearts.

The past two Sundays we have considered intake of God’s Word. This week we will look at meditation, a vital devotion strewn throughout Scripture, yet one that is often misunderstood and marginalized in our crowded, pragmatic culture. To meditate is to think deliberately and stoke our affections before God in response to his Word.

The sermon title is “A Tree in the Wilderness.” Please read (and meditate upon!) Psalm 1 prior to the service. These six verses are the gateway to the entire Psalter. They are the gateway to life.

We will survey the wondrous cross as we partake of the Lord’s Supper together. “Survey” is a good meditation term: to look carefully and thoroughly at something.
