I went down the the cemetery this morning to do some raking to try to mitigate the hog damage. Picked up rocks and some limbs. Since the last post I have received $265 in donations and I have paid in advance for the first mowing ($150). The fund balance is now @ $1245. If my mowers have to do anything extra due to the hog damage, I will pay them more in addition to the $150 for mowing. The good news is, the hogs haven’t been back since December, and hopefully, won’t return. There was a bunch of white pelicans fishing in the bay below the cemetery, where Acree creek empties in to Lake Barkley. I had to go through the woods to get a picture of that. Thank you all, and hope you’re enjoying this spring weather as much as I have. I’ve got tomatoes, peppers and a lot of flowers planted already.
Thanks,
Adam Cathey

I went down to the cemetery this morning. I do not believe the feral hogs have been back since December. Grass has hardly grown much at all yet, so it will be a few weeks before mowing season begins. The fund balance is $1130. Hope you all are enjoying this nice weather.

I’ve been back to check on the hog damage. I can’t say for sure, but I’m fairly certain the hogs have not done anymore damage since sometime between Dec 9th & 17th.

Took my mother to the cemetery this afternoon to place some flowers around my brother’s grave-marker.
Sadly to say, the feral hogs have been down there. Mostly just rooting up the dirt at this point.
Fund balance is still $1130.
Thanks,
Adam

Went down to the Cemetery today. It looks pretty good. We got the markers set for my brother and my aunt. I was happy to get that done. It was mowed last on Aug. 27th. It really hasn’t rained enough to justify paying for it to be mowed again. So, $1130 will be the balance headed in to the winter months. I’ll try to make a post or two before Spring so yall don’t worry about me lol.
Thanks,
Adam

Good morning! It’s me again, Margaret! (hopefully most will get that joke).
I rode down to the cemetery this morning. After getting down in the corner where most of my family is buried, I heard a Pileated Woodpe**er in the woods between the cemetery and the lake. It is the largest wood pe**er in North America. (I made a B in Ornithology at Murray State in 1997). Daddy called them “Indian Hens”, probably due to their color.
I have no new cemetery business to report. Last time it was mowed was Aug 27 and fund balance is still @$1130. Still very little rain here at this time. I don’t expect the cemetery will be mowed again until the spring.
I’m having my great grandma’s (Bertha Blane Cathey) death date put on her head stone. He husband (my great grandfather George B. Cathey) died in 1924 and the head stone was placed around the time, I’m assuming. After my grandmother passed in 1971, that date never got added. The local guy I ordered my brothers grave marker from got me in contact with a company in Clarksville that’s going to do that for me. It’s easy for me to get to the cemetery because I’ve been going there for 49 years or so, but I wanted to get detailed directions for the benefit of the person taking care of the date being put on Bertha’s headstone. I figured I’d share them here. I mentioned last post that I have had Google maps corrected, so that should be able to get anyone down there, but here’s the details I got today:

From the South Welcome Station (the Southern entrance to Land Between the Lakes), go 6.3 miles and turn right on to Neville’s bay road (Road 214), take Neville’s bay road 3.5 miles. The cemetery road will be on the right (see picture I took of this spot). This is road 217. It is 0.6 miles long at ends at the Cemetery.

As always, anyone wanting to ask question, donate to the fund, needs help getting down to the cemetery to visit, or anything else, let me know. You can message this page, comment on a post, message my personal page (Adam Cathey), call me 931-627-0251, or email [email protected]

Thanks to all and I hope you have a great fall time of the year.

Good morning, everyone!
I wanted to give an update on the cemetery status. Last update, the cemetery had been mowed May 29th, with subsequent fund balance of $930.
Since then, cemetery was mowed June 16th (the day after my brother passed, no charge. Thanks, Glen!), again on July 16th, and most recently, on Aug 27th. Since the May 29th update, we have received $500 in donations, and expenses were $300 ($150 each for mowing on July 16th & Aug 27th). The resulting fund balance is currently $1130. There has been very little rain in Stewart Co. the last two months, which is becoming the norm here these days. If the cemetery is mowed again this year, it will only be done one more time. I’ll keep on eye on it and make that determination if/when we get rain this month.
On a side note, around the time of my brothers death, I noticed that Google maps basically showed two cemeteries at the Acree location, one being Jimerson, which I have seen that name used on older family members obituaries, but in all my 49 years, it’s only been known as Acree Cemetery. I finally got it updated on Google maps to only show it as Acree Cemetery, I added some photos, and corrected the address as County Road 217, which is the Acree Cem. road. Thank you all for the help in maintaining the cemetery.

Stewart Co. has gotten very little rain the last several weeks. I will update the financials sometime when it’s not so late. I hope you all are enjoying the summer.

I rode down to the cemetery this morning. On Neville’s Bay Road I saw deer, turkey, crows & a squirrel. On the cemetery road, a hawk flew across in front of me. It’s a peaceful & pretty place to be buried. There was someone camping 20 ft from the front of the entrance, which I thought was kinda weird. There’s been a penny glued to the grave marker of my Uncle Larry Cathey’s and my Grand Daddy’s (James Cathey, Sr). Apparently it’s a military service thing, but I think gluing them down is a little much. I had my pocket knife with me, but they must have used some heavy duty glue because I couldn’t get the Pennies up. I kinda view those graves and grave markers as mine, because there’s no one left alive any closer kin to them than I am. Otherwise it was a nice trip on a pretty day, and the weather has cooled down some (which isn’t saying a whole lot lol).
