Healthy spiritual sight that shines His full light!

“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness..” Matthew 6:22-23 (KJV)

In our daily lives, the human body is led through life by the physical eyes which see what is ahead and make sense of the world. The physical eye illuminates external objects and make the features of objects we encounter visible. Having healthy eyes that see clearly is therefore of utmost importance because to see clearly is to know things, and to notice what is. Those with healthy eyes process events they see and make sound judgments as to what they mean for the world. This is called having wisdom.

In the same way, the light that comes into a man's soul depends on the spiritual condition of the eye through which it has to pass, because the eye is the window of the body. A clean window with clear glass allows the light that filters in to properly light every part of the room, whereas If the window is dirty, or if the glass is uneven or tinted or discolored, the light becomes hindered, and the room does not receive the full benefit of the light. If a man’s spiritual sight is healthy and his focus directed toward heavenly treasure, his whole character will be without blemish.

So therefore, the physical eye clearly refers to our spiritual heart. What we allow to come in and dominate our heart or mind is going to affect our vision or view of life. It is going to affect how we evaluate or look at things. Our heart is truly the eye of our soul. It is through our hearts that all of God's spiritual blessings come to us. It is also through our heart that Satan, if allowed, can store his baggage of discouragement, depression, doubt, and depravity into our lives. Our hearts reveal our character which in turn, is the key factor in determining our priorities and what we consider important and worthless.

Every single day that we live here on earth, there is a constant battle for our hearts. When God has your heart, He has you and you have His total peace. When you turn your heart away from Him then you go into conflict with Him. This is the reason why we are challenged repeatedly to surrender all of our heart to the Lord. Keeping your heart clean allows the Light of God to shine through into your heart without interference and brings His full light to our body.

Scripture to meditate on:
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people” Ephesians 1:18 (NIV)

Choose Light!

“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” (John 3:19) KJV

God’s will and purpose is that everyone should receive salvation. The purpose of His salvation is as broad as His love - which is to save mankind from condemnation. It is not God's will that any should perish. To that end, God has done everything possible to bring all mankind into salvation by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world on a specific and clearly defined mission. Jesus was not sent to judge the world but to bring everyone to salvation through faith in Him.

So, The Light of Life, who is Jesus Christ came into the world to save fallen men from their sins through faith. Just as the sun gives light to the world, so also does the Son of God shine Light on trusting faith. And when we allow faith to take hold of us, the Son of God can shine through us by the power of the Holy Spirit, and we can grow and blossom into being Christ-like in our daily living. Good works replace sinful acts, overcomes selfishness, and hope is given to the hopeless.

How sad it is that there are those that do not believe in the love of God, nor obey the will of God, but live in rebellion against God. The man who remains in darkness as a condemned sinner is in rebellion against God because it is a condition that God does not want for anyone. People who sin against God's will and purpose for their life remain eternally lost in darkness and dead in their sins. The inevitable result for those who choose to reject His gracious offer of salvation by grace through faith is judgement.

As believers, we need to continuously examine ourselves, our hearts and our lives, to see if we harbor characteristics that are still in darkness and that we need to change. Thoughts and actions that we need to bring into line with the words of Jesus Christ. People who do what is wrong hate the light and don’t come to the light. They don’t want their actions to be exposed. Don’t reject the truth of Jesus Christ because you love your evil deed more. Choose Light of Life over darkness!

Scripture to meditate on: “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:”(Ephesians 5:8) KJV

God’s Word is Light!

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105) KJV

Darkness is a reality that we face here on earth. As Christians, we believe that darkness will end when we go to heaven. For non believers, that darkness will extend for eternity. Not only are there external challenges and dangers to face in life's journey, but also there are internal failings and weaknesses that hover deep within our soul which can cause us to walk away from our Christian lives.

A road map or navigation system is required to navigate from one point to another. When driving in the dark at night, headlamps are switched on so that the way is made clear. Similarly, we need the spiritual guidance and illumination of God’s Word to find our way throughout life. God has given us His word to light the dark paths so that we no longer have to dwell in darkness on earth. God's Word is the light of truth that is written for our learning to lead us away from the numerous dark dangers that cross our paths and to strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ as He gently leads us.

Psalm 119:105 likens God’s Word to a lamp for the feet and a light for a path. Just as we use lamps and lights to make it easier to see where we are going, God’s Word draws attention to the right way and helps us stay on track. The detailed instructions provided for in the bible help us organize and prioritize all the things we discover on our spiritual walk. Undertaking the spiritual journey is tricky without God’s Illumination and map. It is very easy to stumble and fall if we attempt to walk alone—even when we have well-thought-out goals and dreams of success. Since God knows each of our paths from beginning to end, we can trust His Word to steer us in the right direction. Living the journey involves TRUST–in His promises and instructions–to keep us from straying from the paths He established.

The Word of God is the light that changes lives. It defines who we are and gives us strength and victory in all earthly trials and tribulations. God’s word, the light of truth, wants to shine in your life today. Will you open yourself up and allow it in? Take time to study, understand and let the Word reside effectually in your heart.

Scripture to meditate on:
“The eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is clear, your whole body is full of light. But when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Be careful, therefore, that the light that is in you is not darkness”(Luke 11:35-36)KJV
