Healthy spiritual sight that shines His full light!
“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness..” Matthew 6:22-23 (KJV)
In our daily lives, the human body is led through life by the physical eyes which see what is ahead and make sense of the world. The physical eye illuminates external objects and make the features of objects we encounter visible. Having healthy eyes that see clearly is therefore of utmost importance because to see clearly is to know things, and to notice what is. Those with healthy eyes process events they see and make sound judgments as to what they mean for the world. This is called having wisdom.
In the same way, the light that comes into a man's soul depends on the spiritual condition of the eye through which it has to pass, because the eye is the window of the body. A clean window with clear glass allows the light that filters in to properly light every part of the room, whereas If the window is dirty, or if the glass is uneven or tinted or discolored, the light becomes hindered, and the room does not receive the full benefit of the light. If a man’s spiritual sight is healthy and his focus directed toward heavenly treasure, his whole character will be without blemish.
So therefore, the physical eye clearly refers to our spiritual heart. What we allow to come in and dominate our heart or mind is going to affect our vision or view of life. It is going to affect how we evaluate or look at things. Our heart is truly the eye of our soul. It is through our hearts that all of God's spiritual blessings come to us. It is also through our heart that Satan, if allowed, can store his baggage of discouragement, depression, doubt, and depravity into our lives. Our hearts reveal our character which in turn, is the key factor in determining our priorities and what we consider important and worthless.
Every single day that we live here on earth, there is a constant battle for our hearts. When God has your heart, He has you and you have His total peace. When you turn your heart away from Him then you go into conflict with Him. This is the reason why we are challenged repeatedly to surrender all of our heart to the Lord. Keeping your heart clean allows the Light of God to shine through into your heart without interference and brings His full light to our body.
Scripture to meditate on:
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people” Ephesians 1:18 (NIV)
Have a blessed week!
