Christ Church in Douglas was constructed in 1898 and is on the National Register for Historic Places. The adjacent Hope Hall Parish Hall, named for long-time member Hope Sims, was constructed in 1979. Congregant and church historian LeeAnn Siebken wrote a history of the church in 1986 called “In Our Midst.” She talks about how important this church is to the community:
Despite its long and color
ful history, Christ Church is not just a landmark standing at the intersection of two major highways in downtown Douglas, but a servant of the town and the hub of community activity. Christ Church has maintained its leadership role since before the turn of the century, and for ninety-six years has “shone out among them like a beacon light holding out to them the Word of Life.” (Philippians 2:15)
It is known by many in the community as the “church with the bells,” or “the church with the clock,” or “the church where we can all watch the Wyoming State Fair Parade.” Directions are often provided using “the white church on the corner of 4th and Center,” as a reference. In 2019 we completed and blessed our Sacred Space outdoor sanctuary which helps us be an inviting church community. The blessing of that space reflects our dream as a church community – “May openhearted hospitality be reflected in this outdoor sanctuary and may it radiate with the warmth of relationship and human connection. May it provide opportunities for sharing of faith that reaches out into the larger community and world. Be present with those who come to this place and make of it, we pray, a place of serenity and peace; in your Name we ask it.” Amen
