We regret to inform you that as of July 25, 2022, our church planting efforts in Douglas, Arizona have come to an end. We have ministered among the people of this city for over 12 years and have attempted planting a new Reformed church gathering on two separate occasions, totaling 3 years! After this last attempt for the past year, one of the two elders/church planters and his family were unable to remain in the city due to circumstances beyond their control.

Though we are very saddened by the inability to continue these efforts in Douglas, we unwaveringly herald the Psalm of old, "the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations” (Ps. 33:11).

We eagerly await what plans the Lord has next for both church planting families as they prayerfully seek the Lord's council and the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Please leave a greeting on our page as we wind down our social media presence. We will leave our YouTube page listed so the sermons preached at Douglas Reformed Church live on.

Soli Deo Gloria.

The story about Cain and Abel is more than merely a story about jealousy and giving into sin. It solidifies the serpent's seed typology and points to Christ.

Genesis 35:9-22

Jacob is given a new name that represents his redeemed place in Christ rather than his former wretched estate in this world. Jacob means “supplanter.” Israel means “contends with, not against, God." From the renaming of Īssah to Eve in Genesis 3, the new name is a faint typology we see in the Old Testament. It is fulfilled in Christ, who puts our sinful natures to death and gives us new names that are only known to us (cf. Revelation 2:17). In Christ, God is making all things new.

Bethel is the place of revelation. This is why so many contemporary charismatic movements are attracted to the name. God’s revelation of Himself to Jacob at Bethel, though, is not in line with the contemporary charismatic movement. Jacob calls the people to end their idolatry prior to arriving at Bethel. They give up their idols and gold rather than having it shower down on them because the Holy Spirit is moving. When God reveals Himself, the result is not a miraculous appearance of gold or the sudden discombobulation of all reasonable sensibilities. The result is repentance and turning from idolatry. I suspect that if the Holy Spirit were to “show up,” so to speak, the entitlement and sensationalism present in the contemporary charismatic movements would immediately be forsaken.

Repentance and turning from idols is the sure sign of the Holy Spirit’s presence and the revelation of God.
