The Prophet Joseph Smith taught that defending the rights of others is inseparable from defending our own.

“I am bold to declare before Heaven that I am just as ready to die in defending the rights of a Presbyterian, a Baptist, or a good man of any other denomination… It is a love of liberty which inspires my soul—civil and religious liberty to the whole of the human race.”

— Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith, p. 345

As we begin this series leading toward America’s 250th anniversary, may we remember that religious freedom is not only a civic blessing — it is a gospel principle rooted in agency, compassion, and Christlike respect for all of God’s children.

“The literal Resurrection of Jesus Christ is settled doctrine for believers of the Bible and Book of Mormon.” — President Dallin H. Oaks

Today we honor the men and women who gave their lives in defense of freedom.
Because of the Savior’s Resurrection, we know that death is not the end, and that those who have fallen in service to their country live on in Him.

The Book of Mormon teaches:
“The spirit and the body shall be reunited again… and we shall be brought to stand before God.” — Alma 11:43

On this Memorial Day, we remember with gratitude:
- Their courage
- Their sacrifice
- Their families who also bear the cost
- And the hope we have in Christ, who “will swallow up death in victory.”

May the families of the fallen feel the Lord’s peace today.
May we live with gratitude for the freedoms purchased at so great a cost.

We are grateful to share that Maggie Langford, who once called the Dothan Alabama Stake home, has received her call to serve in the Alaska Anchorage Mission. Many here remember her faith, kindness, and steady discipleship, and we rejoice with her as she begins this new chapter in the Lord’s work.

Maggie treasures the scripture Helaman 5:12, which teaches the power and protection that come from building our lives on the foundation of Jesus Christ. As she prepares to serve, that truth will guide and strengthen her in every step ahead.

We celebrate her willingness to serve and send our love and prayers with her as she goes forth in faith.

We are pleased to share that Cosette Boesch has received a call to serve in the Spanish Fork Utah Mission. We rejoice with her and her family as she prepares to dedicate her time, talents, and heart to the Lord’s work.

One of her favorite scriptures is Helaman 5:12, reminding us that our foundation must always be built upon our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. As she begins this sacred service, may we each remember the strength and safety that come from anchoring our lives in Him.

We love and support our missionaries. The Lord is hastening His work, and we are grateful to witness it.

The Dothan Alabama Stake partnered with Living Hope to provide hot meals for 125+ of our homeless brothers and sisters. This ongoing relationship has become a blessing to our community—bringing light, love, and a full tummy to those who need it most.

As we serve together, we remember that the Savior’s ministry was filled with simple, compassionate acts of care. He fed the hungry, lifted the weary, and invited us to do the same in His name.

“For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat … Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. ” — Matthew 25:35, 40.

We are grateful for Living Hope and for every heart that helps make this work possible. May we continue to follow Christ by seeing and serving each person with His love.

“I was blessed with an extraordinary mother… She surely was one of the many noble women who have lived in the latter days.” — President Dallin H. Oaks

On this Mother’s Day, we honor the noble women of our stake and throughout the world—women who lift, teach, nurture, and strengthen through quiet discipleship and Christlike love. Whether you are a mother by birth, by circumstance, by influence, or by covenant, your contributions bless generations.

As President Oaks’ tribute reminds us, the influence of righteous women shapes lives in ways that echo far beyond the present moment. Today we express our gratitude for every woman who builds faith, creates peace, and reflects the Savior’s love in her home and community.

Happy Mother’s Day from the Dothan Alabama Stake.
May you feel the Lord’s appreciation for the work you do and the love you give.
