April 21 holds a special place in my heart for a couple of reasons.

First, 40 years ago today Randy knelt in one knee on the porch of Smith Dorm at Samford University and handed me a white candle (only Delta Omicron sorority sisters will understand the significance of the white candle) with a ring on it and asked me to marry him. I said yes of course. 🥰

The other reason is that 48 years ago today I walked the church aisle during the invitation of a revival service and publicly shared that God was calling me to be a missionary. I was 13 years old. While being a missionary has looked much different than what I pictured at 13, that call to the gospel ministry has infiltrated every stage of my life since. From high school & college, through the young married life & young motherhood of my 20s & 30s, on through all the endeavors my 40s & 50s took me through, never once has the call to be a missionary left me. I knew that whatever my tasks for the day were the ultimate purpose in God giving me those tasks were to proclaim the gospel of Jesus to whomever was before me (including my own children). I do not expect my 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and beyond will be any different. God will be faithful to His call on my life until He calls me home.

Take up thy cross and follow me I heard my Master say
I gave My life to ransom thee
Surrender your all today

Verse 2

He drew me closer to His side
I sought His will to know
And in that will I now abide
Wherever He leads I'll go

Verse 3

It may be through the shadows dim
Or o'er the stormy sea
I take my cross and follow Him
Wherever He leadeth me

Verse 4

My heart my life my all I bring
To Christ who loves me so
He is my Master Lord and King
Wherever He leads I'll go

Chorus

Wherever He leads I'll go
Wherever He leads I'll go
I'll follow my Christ who loves me so
Wherever He leads I'll go

“I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; As for me, I shall be glad in the Lord.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭104:33-34‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; As for me, I shall be glad in the LORD.

Vermont Mission Trip. This group of 16 from Calvary worked hard this week. They worked to help North Pownel Church survey a community in Petersburg, NY as North Pownel Church prepares to plant a church there in the near future.

They also worked construction at North East Baptist College building housing for married couples who attend to college in preparation for ministry.

Pray for safe travels as they return home today.

A church in Atlanta was honoring one of its senior pastors who had been retired many years. He was 92 at that time and I wondered why the church even bothered to ask the old gentleman to preach at that age.
After a warm welcome, introduction of this speaker, and as the applause quieted down, he rose from his high back chair and walked slowly, with great effort and a sliding gait to the podium.
Without a note or written paper of any kind he placed both hands on the pulpit to steady himself and then quietly and slowly he began to speak....
"When I was asked to come here today and talk to you, your pastor asked me to tell you what was the greatest lesson ever learned in my 50-odd years of preaching. I thought about it for a few days and boiled it down to just one thing that made the most difference in my life and sustained me through all my trials. The one thing that I could always rely on when tears and heartbreak and pain and fear and sorrow paralyzed me...
The only thing that would comfort was this verse....
"Jesus loves me this I know.
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong,
We are weak but He is strong.....
Yes, Jesus loves me....
The Bible tells me so."
The old pastor stated, "I always noticed that it was the adults who chose the children's hymn 'Jesus Loves Me' (for the children of course) during a hymn sing, and it was the adults who sang the loudest because I could see they knew it the best."
"Here for you now is a Senior version of Jesus Loves Me":
JESUS LOVES ME
Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in Him.
(CHORUS)
YES, JESUS LOVES ME.. YES, JESUS LOVES ME..
YES, JESUS LOVES ME, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.
Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I'll go
On through life, let come what may,
He'll be there to lead the way.
(verse 2)
When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart He puts a song..
Telling me in words so clear,
"Have no fear, for I am near."
(Verse 3)
When my work on earth is done,
And life's victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I'll understand His love.
(CHORUS)
I love Jesus, does He know?
Have I ever told Him so?
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day.

Well, it is time to head home. We have enjoyed our time with Phil Waldrup and his guests Charles Bilingsly, David Jeremiah, The Collingsworth Family, The Gaither Vocal Band, and Gordon Mote. We had a wonderful time last night celebrating what is going right in our country, honoring the men and women who have served and are serving our country providing us the freedoms we still enjoy. About that… The Voices of LEE University sang an arrangement of Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory, during that celebration. It was as if it was a new song to me (Sandra) and there was such hope as the phrase over and over was sung, “His (God’s) TRUTH keeps marching on”. And it does as it has through the ages.. the Truth of God is not in jeopardy. It moves on beyond the US to the whole world!! The night ended with an interview with Mike & Karen Pence. What a blessing to hear their testimony of what Jesus has and is doing in their lives.

Well, mostly we enjoyed fellowship with each other. We have laughed together, played together, and prayed together. It’s been a wonderful trip!
