Today we thank God for the gift of our mothers and other women He has given us in our life.
Father of glory, Your Son, our Lord Jesus, in His incarnation, took on our created human flesh and was born of the Virgin Mary. He submitted to His mother, honoring and obeying her, so fulfilling the commandment where we have not. On this Mothers’ Day, graciously accept our thanksgiving for our mothers, whom you have given to us. Teach us to honor them aright — loving, obeying and giving thanks for them, as is fitting in Your sight. Strengthen all women with child and protect them in their deliverance. Comfort all women who long to have children, but cannot, that they may find their consolation in You and Your unfailing love; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord.

Preparing for Sunday morning when we will hear Jesus tell us to pray in His Name.
What do I keep asking God for? Usually it’s “just a little more”—a little more money, ease, health, time, success. "in Jesus’ name” isn’t a magic phrase to get my will done. It’s asking for God’s will—what is truly good for faith and eternal life. Even crosses and trials can be His mercy, teaching us to pray, “Lord, have mercy,” and to lean on His grace. And the Lord’s Prayer really does cover every need, driving us back to Jesus in His Word and Supper. His promise is true: “Your joy will be full.”

Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 PM we will celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord.

What is so significant about the Ascension?
Christ has led our enemies captive, enemies such as misfortune, death, and hell. Our lives are hidden with Christ in God (Col. 3:3). Christ has ascended, and we, as members of His body, have ascended with Him. For now, our ascension is hidden to us. There will come a time when Christ and our victory over our enemies will be made visible for us.

“It is to your advantage that I go away,” Jesus says—and He’s right. By His departure, Christ offers Himself once for all to put away our sin, rises in victory, and sends the Holy Spirit to deliver forgiveness, faith, and life. Though His earthly presence was once limited, He is now with us always—through His Word, His Sacraments, and the Spirit who points us to our Savior. Because Jesus went away for a little while, we are never without Him. Rejoice and sing a new song for the victory He has won for you.

This Sunday we rejoice in Jesus' proclamation that He is the good shepherd. Jesus’ “I AM” statements aren’t just metaphors — they show us who He truly is. Earthly things like bread, doors, and shepherds fail, but Jesus is their perfect fulfillment. As the Good Shepherd, He does what no human shepherd would do: He willingly lays down His life to save even one lost sheep. That sheep is us — sinners threatened by sin and death. Christ seeks us out, gives His life for us, and gathers us into His flock, caring for us through His Church until the day He brings all His people together as one flock under one Shepherd.

God’s Word isn’t just something we read — it creates. In Scripture we see that His Word brings four incredible gifts: life, faith, peace, and forgiveness.
Where there was once death, God speaks life. Where there was doubt, He creates faith. Where there was fear, Jesus stands among His disciples and says, “Peace be with you.” This peace isn’t the absence of trouble, but the assurance that sin no longer separates us from God.
Even after Easter’s joy fades back into the routines and struggles of daily life, Christ does not leave us on our own. He comes to us through His Word and His Sacraments to forgive our sins, strengthen our faith, and quiet our fears.
The risen Jesus still speaks today — and when He speaks, He creates.
Life. Faith. Peace. Forgiveness.
