In the ’70s and ’80s, many of the windows at First Parish Dorchester were shattered by kids throwing rocks. With more than 60 large windows and an estimated 1,400 panes of glass, that was a LOT of damage! We have had many restored but there are some that still need help.
The caretakers at the time replaced the broken panes with Plexiglas. Decades later, that Plexiglas has yellowed and crazed with age.
This large window’s 24 panes had been replaced with 22 Plexiglas panes😞.
We often think about those caretakers of the time and how frustrated and heartbroken they must have been to see those beautiful old windows destroyed. They did what they could.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve restored this window with glass, bringing it a little closer to its original beauty.
We are dedicating this restoration to the caretakers who came before me. Thank you, gentlemen. You did what was right for the times, and I hope you’d be happy to see it today. ❤️
