"Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment." (Luke 23:56)

In Hebrew, Shabbat means rest, this day is mentioned in the Torah as a day of rest, in which no one of God's people can work. During his lifetime Jesus had several discussions with the scribes and Pharisees about this day.

After Jesus died and Joseph of Arimathea, one of the leading Jews, who had believed in Him, donates a tomb to lay the master; the women prepare ointments and perfumes to anoint his body.

There comes a moment of rest, of waiting, not only because it was Shabbat, but also because in the midst of so much sadness and pain, it is worthwhile to take a break to mourn. When everything is in chaos, before trying to put everything in order, it is best to stop and rest to process what has happened.

As followers of Jesus, we must take time to rest, not only physically, but also emotionally. To pray, process and understand the chaos in which the situations of life are asking of us.

As our God acts, it is very likely that in the midst of the chaos that we live in, we will find the merciful hand of our Lord creating order, blessing and help, so that we can move forward. Let us take rest and be prepared in faith to be surprised by the powerful actions of Christ.

"Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene." (John 19:25)

Jesus is taken to Mount Calvary to be executed, as a criminal, He who was innocent, paid for crimes He did not commit. He carried the cross where they would hang him and Pilate ordered to put a title in three words: Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews.

In that moment of so much physical and emotional pain, Jesus is accompanied by several women, who express their solidarity and although they are suffering, they are not afraid to be close to Him, to support Him. There is also the beloved disciple.

Unlike the male disciples who hide, for fear that the Jews will recognize them and arrest them as well. Here we see two types of disciples, those who accompany Jesus to death, the women and the beloved disciple, and those who hide to protect their lives.

The mission that Jesus leaves us to mercifully love our neighbors, leads us to accompany those who are suffering, and that accompaniment must be to the last consequences. With solidarity, support and help.

By accompanying those who suffer today, we are bringing the grace and forgiveness of Jesus to all human beings. The salvation of Jesus, in addition to receiving Jesus' forgiveness, also means that we contribute so that those who are in vulnerable situations may feel the grace and love of God.
