Are you drifting?
With the beginning of a new year, typically brings new resolutions of the person you hope to be come or the goals you hope to achieve this year.
Have you ever found yourself drifting away from where you want to be? It happens to all of us. Drifting is defined; to move slowly, especially as a result of outside forces, with no control over direction. Hebrews 2:1-3 warns we must listen very carefully to the truth or we may drift away from it.
Surely this can be applied to any area in your life, financially, motherhood, fitness, relationships, but most importantly spiritually.
In Acts 19 Paul writes about there love for the Lord and others despite the evil they lived amongst in there city. He exhorts and warns them in Ephesians1:15, 3:17-19 to not leave or forget your first love.
35 years later in Revelation 2:4-5, they had drifted and forgot that first love they had for the Lord and each other.
Here are some ways to test yourself:
1. When your delight in the Lord is no longer as great as your delight in someone or something.
2. When you no longer have time for Gods word or prayer.
3. When you don’t meditate upon the things of God.
4. When you don’t cheerfully give to Gods work or help those in need.
5. When you seek the approval of this world rather then that of the Lord.
6. When you no longer have time to attend church and fellowship with his flock.
7. When you won’t forgive another that has offended you
8. When you view Gods commandments as restrictions to your happiness.
Have you drifted off slowly with no control over your direction?
Revelation 2:5 Turn back to HIM and the works you did at first.
3R’s Remember, Repent, Return
Remember him when you write your New Years goals. Repent from where you’ve drifted to. Return to him and he will correct our path.
May we all be unrecognizable from our former or current self this time next year!
