Dear Families,
Welcome to our I AMs of Jesus series!
Have you ever had an idea of who someone is that turned out to be false? Maybe you knew of someone by reputation only and then got a chance to get to know this person for yourself. Maybe the individual you now consider a friend is very different from the person you had once heard false things about.
During the I AMs of Jesus series, kids will explore four statements Jesus made about Himself: “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35), “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6), “I am the vine” (John 15:5), and “I am the Alpha and the Omega” (Revelation 21:6).
In many ways, Jesus’ I AM statements caused Jesus’ original audience to confront their preconceived ideas about Him. The people encountering Jesus thought they already knew who God is. But what Jesus revealed in His I AMs blew their minds.
As we enter these lessons with hearts and minds open to what the Holy Spirit wants to reveal, we also might find ourselves at the end of this series saying about Jesus, “I was wrong about Him.”
As a family, be prepared to have your own prejudgments about Jesus and who He is challenged during this series. Go into it asking Him, “What do You want to show me?” And then pay attention.
Read the following words from our upcoming Word of Wonder:
I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in darkness. They will have that light. They will have life.
—John 8:12
Let’s get to know Jesus together!
