Who We Are
Walter Scott Camp and Learning Center is a ministry of the Christian Church in Illinois-Wisconsin (CCIW), hosting CCIW-sponsored youth and family camps during the summer months and opening its’ doors for other individuals and groups to use the facility as well. What Is Our Mission
Walter Scott Camp and Learning Center is a sanctuary in the world for all Creation and people. Who Is Welco

me
People and groups of all faiths or no faith are welcome to use the facilities. We are delighted to host a variety of groups for overnight and day functions including: churches, faith communities, non-profits, educational groups, governmental agencies, families, weddings, businesses, schools, clubs, and many more. When We Are Open
Our facilities include many structures, such as the year-round log cabins, retreat house, and dining hall/lodge. You can find more information about these facilities on our website facilities page. What Makes Us Different
We differ from some other recreational camps as we and many who use the facility consider the grounds and forest to be a deeply spiritual place. Walter Scott, like all land, is a place for which we feel a deep ecological responsibility. We live into this responsibility by our practices on the grounds.

Today is the last day to register for Beginners camp! Going to summer camp and staying overnight for the first time can be intimidating for some Beginners campers, but our staff make certain to provide a loving and safe environment to reduce the stress. This shorter camp is a great way to introduce a child in your life to a love of camping, the outdoors, and faith. Songs, delicious food, games, and lessons about how we can each be as loving as Christ are what are packed into this experience. We're only a month away, so make certain to register today at CampWalterScott.org/camp! And remember, if finances are an issue, reach out so we can ensure all children who want to attend this experience are able to do so!

Our native prairie at Walter Scott is in bloom once again. Providing food sources for native insects, habitats for wildlife, and beauty for those who drive by it on the road - this project is one of the many ways we are caring gently for God's Creation. You can start your own native prairie too - even in as small of an area as 3'x3'! To learn more, check out http://campwalterscott.org/prairie

We had a great Memorial Day Weekend Family Camp here at Walter Scott! Dozens of folks spent time with their families, friends, and God's Creation on these sacred grounds. Around campfires and potlucks, memories were made. We are grateful to host these wonderful folks!

--- Announcement ---

Walter Scott Diaspora,

My name is Rev. Clayton Summers and for the past four and a half years I have had the pleasure and privilege of shepherding this sacred ground. It is only after much conversation, deliberation, and prayerful reflection that I and my family have made the decision it is time for me to transition out of this role.

Effective August 31st, 2026, I will be leaving my position with Walter Scott and the Future Living Waters Region. This decision was made in planning for the future of my family and my own vocational calling. It has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve here at Walter Scott, but seasons change in life just as they do in the world around us. I remain confident Walter Scott still has a flourishing future ahead of it, and I am grateful to have helped guide it in the time I had.

The Walter Scott Advisory Board in consultation with regional staff have been hard at work on drafting a job description that will be coming soon. If you have a heart for hospitality, ministry, and Creation care I strongly encourage you to consider applying. I am genuinely excited for the next chapter of this ministry, to offer the advice and support I can to my successor, and after a season away, to lend my time and talents in other ways to this Cathedral of Creation.

As I have repeated throughout my time here, this ministry exists because of all of us, not because of any single individual. I encourage you to volunteer at work days, adopt a project, donate, and lend your time, talents, and love to this sacred place in its next season as you have so generously done during the last.

As for myself, I have made it a policy not to share my personal life online. If you're curious about what's next for me, feel free to give me a call, a text, or even set up a time to meet in person for a hot beverage.

Until then however, our shared vocation remains the same. Care gently for God's Creation.

Rev. Clayton Summers
Resident Minister & Caretaker
