History of Faith Presbyterian Church
In 2005, members of a Scranton area church were so alarmed with the direction of their denomination that when a committee failed to convince the whole congregation to pull out and seek a more conservative and reformed denomination t
hat they left the Church under the guidance of the pastor, Rev. Dr. Ronald Bell
On December 28, 2005, following a meeting with ARP representatives, we applied for provisional status as a misson congregation. Our stated purpose was the Worship of Almighty God according to the Evangelical and Reformed Faith as delineated in the historical confessions of the Protestant Reformation, and in particular the Westminister Confession of 1647 summarized as By Grace Alone, By Faith Alone, by Scripture Alone. Fifteen people signed to organize and affiliate with the ARP: Jessica Beckish, Jean Bell, John and Anne Domin, Janice Johnson, Richard and Edna Kozak, Robert and Barbara Mehne, Mae Shaffer, Irene Stoker, Laura and Alan Summa, Joseph and Janet Widzbell
On January 5, 2006, we had our first congregational meeting. With Rev Dr Ron Bell as our pastor, we set February 5, 2006 at 10:45AM for our first Worship Service at the Holiday Inn in Scranton. Sunday School at 9:30AM would be taught by Robert (adults) and Barbara Mehne (children). Officers elected were: Provisional Session—John Domin, Richard Kozak, Robert Mehne, Alan Summa and Joseph Widzbell. Clerk of Session—Elder- John A Domin Jr ; Treasurer--Robert Mehne; Assistant Treasurer—Anne Domin Secretary—Barbara Mehne; Prayer Chain—Janet Widzbell; Women Association President—Anne Domin; Organist —Jessica Beckish. We decided on quarterly communion and set our first communion for Easter. We were grateful for a communion set from Billy Jennings, offering plates donated by Joe and Janet Widzbell; Jessica had a keyboard for music and 40 hymnals were donated by Dr Bell. On November 4, 2007, with an attendance of 36, we began to hold Sunday Worship at the Bradley Memorial Methodist Church building at 106 Lincoln Street in Dickson City, Pennsylvania. On November 14, 2007, The Rev. David Johnson, the Moderator of the Northeast Presbytery constituted Faith Presbyterian Church as a congregation in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Dr. Milton Fisher, retired pastor and John McCarthy, Ruling Elder from the Kirkridge Church assisted in the Ordination and Installation of Ruling Elders. The Rev. Dr. Ronald Bell was installed as Pastor. On August 5, 2012, our beloved Pastor Reverend Doctor Ronald Bell went home to His Lord and Savior. Our church is presently without a full time pastor, but our pulpit is supplied every Sunday to lead in worship.
