From Virgil:
Good morning DCC family. I'm sorry we didn't get to meet together this morning for worship, but it was a wise decision to cancel services today. Looks like everything is shut down today so I hope you can stay in and warm. I know some of you have to be out doing things, so you are in my prayers and please take care of yourself and dress warmly . I am staying in and warm while my neighbor is outside cleaning off my driveway. How's that for planning---and having good neighbors?
One of the things Linda and I like to do when we can't join with our church family for worship is to have our own short time of worship and communion. Unfortunately, Linda won't let me preach at her for very long. So, we get a little juice (sometimes even apple juice) and a cracker and let them represent the blood and body of Jesus on the cross as he sacrificed his life to cover our sins. I want to share a few thoughts with you and encourage your time of celebration. I tried to send a video, but believe it or not, it was too long. So here are just a few thoughts.
A couple verses naturally come to mind on a day like this. Psalm 51:7-"Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow." These words are part of David's confession and repentance before God. His prayer is for forgiveness so complete that they are covered as snow. I hope we will take the opportunity to see the beauty of the snow covered ground and let it remind us of God's complete forgiveness in making our life white, pure and bright.
Another verse is found in Isaiah 1:18-"Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." Isaiah was writing to and about his nation that had forsaken God but he and the other prophets were calling them to turn back to God in repentance and love. He gives them the promise from God that the faults, rebellion and sin will be forgiven and covered.
Both of these verses should remind us of the love and forgiveness that God offers to each of us. I want to encourage you to spend a few moments in reflection and remembering the great sacrifice that Jesus paid on our behalf. I pray--Heavenly Father, bless our church family and friends today. Help us to feel your presence, love and grace. May these emblems remind us of your mercy and forgiveness and may they give us spiritual strength for the day. In Jesus name, Amen.
I hope you have a great week and I look forward to meeting for worship next week.
Please let me know of any needs or concerns you may have or hear about from others. I'll be checking in with you later in the week to share prayers and praises.
Blessings to all.
