What a great hymn to sing this Lord’s Day! As we gather today for corporate worship, let us rejoice in the amazing love of God, that He should die for me!

Good news for our weary hearts...

My heart, do you bleed for sin and mourn because of it? Be it so; but it has ceased to be, for Christ made an end of it when he took it up to his cross and bore it there in his own body on the tree. O believer, are you bowed down and troubled on account of past sin? It is right you should repent; but still remember your past sin exists no more, the pen is drawn through it and it is cancelled, for the day of vengeance is over. God will not twice take vengeance for the same sin. Either the atonement which Jesus offered was enough, or it was not; if it was not, then woe be to us, for we shall die; but if it was sufficient—if "It is finished" was not a lie, but a truth, then he has "finished transgression and made an end of sin." The sin of the believer is annihilated and abolished, and can never be laid to his charge. Let us rejoice that the day of vengeance is over, and the year of acceptance has begun.

Remembering Martyrs: On this day in 1536, William Tyndale was burned at the stake for translating the Bible into English. His last words were "Lord, open the king of England's eyes." For Tyndale, a Bible "for the people" meant all could drink from God’s Word without pressure or pretext and without a priest to read or interpret. Two years after Tyndale's death, King Henry VIII authorized distribution of the Matthew Bible, much of it Tyndale's work. Today we celebrate Tyndale’s life and the impact he made on Bible translation and access to Scripture.

Friday evening we had the opportunity and privilege to come together for our annual Covenant Renewal Service and Banquet, I Am No Longer My Own, But Thine. It was a beautiful service of hymns, prayers, and renewing of our hearts to God and to each other as a church family. At the close of the service, we gathered for a special time of communion at the Lord's Table, followed by a catered meal. Although not all members were able to attend, we celebrate the love our church family shares for the Lord and one another.

As we prepare for our annual Covenant Renewal Service and Banquet tomorrow evening, we are reminded that if we are a child of God, we are no longer our own, but rather Thine. In 1755, John Wesley wrote this beautiful prayer:

I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee,
exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things
to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
thou art mine, and I am thine.
So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
let it be ratified in heaven.
Amen.
