Cowboy Preacher
A Bible, a six Gun
And his Horse

Do you remember when a evil man with a gun entered a church in North Texas. He started shooting and he killed two people. We are all thankful that a couple of church members, who were armed, shot the evil man. We have no idea how many lives were saved by the two armed church members.

Some people can't picture armed church members. Very few can imagine a Cowboy Preacher with a 6 GUN ON HIS HIP and a BIBLE IN HIS HAND? How does that work?

Let me explain. Not long ago I wrote about the 2 Dan's. Dan Wilson and I, we both grew up in Kansas and we are both Pastors.

While we were in Arizona visiting Dan Wilson it looked like every 4th person we saw were openly carrying a gun on their hip. I learned that their crime rate is lower than cities and states with stricter gun laws.

Dan is a cowboy, he repairs guns, he was a security guard, he always carries and he is a preacher. As for me, I've been a carpenter, a working cowboy, a detective, prison guard and a cowboy preacher.

Again can you imagine a Preacher with a six gun on his hip and a Bible in his hand and he is behind a pulpet in your church? Well Dan Wilson is that kind of preacher.

When I was riding to Cody, WY in 2014 a reporter met my wife and I on the highway. He interviewed me and took pictures. The story was in the paper the next day. Shortly after that I had several indignant people say why does a preacher need to carry a gun?

During our 4 year ride, we were in the desert, in the mountains, the plains, swamps and here on our spread in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Having a gun was necessary in case of snakes, a bear, badgers, coyotes, cougars, wild dogs and anything else.

As a Preacher I trust JESUS CHRIST, and I believe he guides me and gives me common sense. Based on scripture I am directed to protect my family, my church members, anyone who is in danger and myself. I thank God that I have never had to shoot anyone. However there have been several times when I had to draw my weapon. By doing so I prevented harm to myself, others who were nearby and my horses.

As for a preacher having a gun on his side while preaching, there is a good reason for it. Think about what is happening today and the number of attacks on Christians in our churches. Now what if a man walked into the back doors of your church and he was carrying a gun or assault rifle, who would be the first one to see him? "The preacher".

Now Dan & I cannot speak for other preachers, but if that happened in our church Dan or I, as Shepard's would do anything in our power to protect our flock. Dan & I have been legally and responsibly carrying a gun for over 37 years and thank God we have never had to shoot anyone.

Now look at the number of attacks on Christian's and churches. This is a growing problem in America. This is why some churches have been forced to arm a few church members or hire off duty police or security guards.

If I were ever forced to take a life, it would be because:

"If I did nothing someone would have been hurt or killed".

Again I thank God I have never been put in that position. But we are ready to meet JESUS but only when he is ready for us and not because of someone else's evil act. We are willing to lay down our lives to protect babies, children, women, elderly, our flock, our family and anyone who is in danger.

I agree with Franklin Graham. In the 1800's the vast majority of Americans attended church. And now there are fewer & fewer people in this country that trust and believe in GOD. Because of this there is a dramatic increase in violent crimes.

LASTLY I WOULD RATHER HAVE A GUN AND NOT NEEDED IT THAN TO NEED A GUN AND NOT HAVE IT.

You may not agree with Dan and I but please respect our choices and we will respect yours.

WHY DOES A MAN
CHOOSE A HORSE
OVER A WOMAN
OR VICE-VERSA ???

The simple answer for the man or woman is:

1) A good horse doesant give you a bad attitude
2) The horse can't talk back
3) The horse loves you unconditionally
4) A horse will carry you even when it's tired

ON A SERIOUS SIDE !!! I have met men and women who really do love a horse more than a man or woman. You see they have been hurt, rejected or disappointed to many times. A good horse loves you in good times and bad times, and they haven't found a sole mate like that.

I too have dealt with that pain. When I refused to try again I kept praying. Finally I asked JESUS to choose the woman I need.

JESUS DID JUST THAT !!!! JESUS chose Grace and put her in my life. We have been married 10 years as of my birthday in May. You see I am a little forgetful so WE GOT MARRIED ON MY BIRTHDAY. So when I wake up on that day I say happy anniversary and my wife says the same and then she says happy birthday.

I pray that you have the man or woman that JESUS has chosen for you !!!!

I lean on several scriptures but this is my favorite.

Psalm 37:4 “ Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

GOD's RETIREMENT
FOR OLD COWBOYS

"JESUS CHRIST JUNCTION"
Please read to the end about an old cowboy's story. This old cowboy need help.

OLD COWBOYS WITHOUT THEIR HORSE, NO MONEY & NOWHERE TO GO !!!!

JESUS gave me a dream for old Cowboys who can't ride anymore, nowhere to go and no way to take care of his horse.

I want to talk about this dream and about old Cowboys who work from Ranch to Ranch from Texas to Montana. These Cowboys are a Dying Breed. Some people call them day workers, some call them rounders and some call them Drifters. But I just called them Cowboys. Most of these Cowboys have no retirement no social security and no income when they can't ride or work.

These old Cowboys are drifters. They truly are free spirits. Most of these Cowboys have no wife or children and nowhere to go. When they can't ride and they don't have a job and no way to pay for feed or pasture for their horse. These cowboys then die. Yes when you take the horse away from these old Cowboys they die.

JESUS CHRIST JUNCTION
"J C J" THE DREAM

The dream is a place out in the country with little cabins for the old Cowboys to retire and a pasture where they can keep their horse.

These cabins will be very small with just a bed, bathroom, small fridge, microwave and a couch. We also have two nurses that are willing to check in on these old Cowboys.

There should also be a small RV park and stalls for traveling cowboys to put up their horses. They should be allowed to stay up to 3 nights.

I pray that some land can be acquired here in the Flint Hills of Kansas or wherever land can be available for JCJ.

I posted this story a couple years ago. I now realize that I am not capable of building "JESUS CHRIST JUNCTION". I PRAY THAT JESUS directs someone to take control of this PROHECT. Here is what is needed:

1. Project Manager
2. Someone to write
a prospectus
3. Someone to
solicit sponsors:
a. Cattlemen assoc.
b. Livestock sale
barns
c. Feed lots
d. Horse
associations
e. Cowboy Churches

This project is going to need help. That's why Cattlemen's associations, feedlots, sale Barns PRCA, PBR and anybody who's willing to lend a hand need to be contacted.

The rest of Jesus Christ Junction will consist of:

1 Three large
crosses on top.
of the hill.
2 A tomb cut out
below the
crosses. A sign
that reads empty,
he is risen.
3 A stream coming
from the bottom
of the cross,
down the hill to a
small pond,
and a sign that
reads, Jesus is
the living water.
4 Benches where
people can come
meditate and
pray.

THIS IS NOT AND NEVER WILL BE A MONEY MAKING VENTURE.

One last goal is to collect and share the history and stories of these old Cowboys.

I'm 76 years old and before I die I would like to see JCJ started. As a Cowboy Preacher I have a Tax ID number for the Cowboy Church. I will get a 501-C-3 tax religious nonprofit if necessary.

I received a message from this old cowboy who needs a place like JCJ where he can retire. Please read his story that was a response to my story about [THE MAN WHO THOUGHT HE HAD LOST EVERYTHING]

"THANK Y0U BUNCHES. I DID INFACT TELL SOMEONE THAT SAME THING A COUPLE DAYS AGO. SHE IS HOME FROM PHISATHERAPY, I AM SHE CAN'T WALK YET, IN A WHEELCHAIR. I AM IN REHAB, FOR SECONT TIME FIRST TIME I FELL BROKE MY HIP SO BAD THE DOCTORS SAID THEY COULD NOT OPERATE. I WOULD BE IN A WHEELCHAIR THE REST OF MY LIFE AND IF If I PUT PRESSURE ON IT I WOULD BE BED RIDDEN. I TOLD THEM GOD IS MY BONE DOCTOR. GOD HEALED MY HIP AND I LEFT. He thought he had
Lost everything !!!!

Early in our journey to ride our horses through all of the lower 48 states we made it to Florida. I decided to trailer our horses to Maine and ride south to Georgia. On our way north we had a problem with our 3 horse slant. We needed a new tire and some brake work. I stopped at a Discount tire shop. While I was inspecting the damage a young man stopped and asked if he could help. I said yes we could use the help.

This young man saw the yellow sign on my Ram 3500 and asked what "The Last Circuit Riding Preacher" was and where were we going.

After I told him about our mission I said I also wanted to collect stories of faith.

Before I tell you about this young man story, you need to know that we were in the mountains, roads were narrow, steep drop off and heavenly forested.

This young man said " I HAVE A STORY FOR YOU ". He said he was scared and had to have faith. He went on and told me that last week he was driving home and looked to his left, then he heard a thud. He looked in his mirror and didn't see anything. He said he turned around and went back but didn't see anything as he passed the guard rail. He said he later heard that an older woman was hit and died. He said he was so fearful. He called someone he knew in the local court. They told him not to say anything else and to call an attorney. He went on to say he had to know if he was responsible for this woman's death.

He said he would finish the story later. He said I need to follow him to his home and shop. He said he had a place for our horses and our trailer. So we followed him. After we got set up and ate he introduced us to his wife and 2 little girls. He then returned to his story. He said police and everybody involved still didn't know if he hit the woman. But he was struggling with guilt.

The next morning his mother arrived and I visited with her and her son. His guilt was still consuming him.

I prayed for him and his family. I then told him we all make mistakes, we have to ask for forgiveness from God and anyone involved. I said you have to let go of the guilt and move on or the guilt will consume you.

Later his mother came to me crying and thanking me for helping her son. She said he is at peace now.

This young man repaired our trailer and we left a couple days later. I kept in touch with him and continued to encourage him.

Unfortunately a week passed and he called me and was crying. He said his wife served him with divorce papers and he had to move. He said the worst thing was that his best friend had been seeing his wife and was now living with her in his home. I kept in touch with him, prayed for him and kept encouraging him to pray for guidence. I still pray for him as his phone was disconnected.

I have never been able to contact him but I HAVE AND WILL CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR HIM. Sometimes we have to recognize that we have done all we can but we can still pray for them.

Read 1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

HAVE YOU EVER
DREAMED YOU
WENT TO HEAVEN ??

This is a true story for someone. Since JESUS gave this story to me, someone has had a dream like this. It will make you laugh & it will make you think !!!

THE DREAM

I dreamed I was 95 years old when I died. Wow, I hope this dream is true because I'm 75 years old now and that means I've got another 20 years.

When I got to heaven Saint Peter met me at the pearly gates. He took me straight to the big BOSS. JESUS gave me a hug and told Pete to show me around. He showed me the crystal sea, the streets of gold and the mr443 r ansions. I said please show me the stable, the remuda and the mountains. He showed me everything. Then I saw 2 of my old friends, my horses Hank & Bubba. I was so excited to see JESUS and my old horses, WOW.

St. Peter said there's more. He said you haven't even seen your family and friends yet.

On our way I saw thousands of preachers standing and facing the corner of heaven and no one was talking. I know they were preachers from their robes and a few priests still had their collars on.

I said "Hay pard what's the deal with these preachers"? Saint Peter started laughing. He said they all got here because they helped save a lot of lost souls. I said so why are they all in the corner. Saint Peter started laughing again. He said all of these preachers were guilty of arguing over silly doctrinal issues, like baptism, total Emerson or sprinkling and other silly things. He said some of those folks you saw were dunked and some sprinkled. I said so why are they in the corner? Pete said their punishment is they have to be quiet and stand in the corner for half of eternity. I laughed and said I'm glad I didn't argue and he laughed again and said "ya but we were watching you" !!!!

Saint Peter said the preachers needed to stick to the most important parts.

That's when I awoke and I was angry that I had to come back to reality. And I didn't get to ride the high country on my horses (Hank and Bubba).

"Cowboys Can't Grow
Roots Through Their
Cowboys Boots" !!!!

MY FRIENDS THAT IS WHY MOST OLD COWBOYS ARE SINGLE !!!!

Most of these old Cowboys who work from Ranch to Ranch are single because.

They travel from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, into Montana and on and on. They will work anywhere they can, from the back of a horse because that's where they truely feel free. Sometimes they live in the front of their goose neck stock trailer with their horses in the back.

Most of these cowboys love God and see his beauty everyday. They love their family, their country, ranching, their horses and their freedom.

There are a lot of cowboys who where hurt by someone they loved and never tried to love again. Most of these cowboys just can't stop drifting.

This reminds me of the song that I truly loved back then. This song was called Tumbleweed by Sylvia. I think it explains a lot about those young and old Cowboys. My favorite line was " Tumbleweed if you don't stop long enough to let yourself fall in love your going to end up lonely ".

The lucky cowboys are the ones who found a cowgirl who loves the same life they do. Cowgirls that will ride beside them and worked with them Sun up till Sun down.

The saddest part of this story is that some of those single old cowboys don't have anywhere to go when they can't ride anymore. They're day workers or contact labor and have never paid into social security. Now when they can't ride anymore and you take their horses away from them, these old cowboys don't live very long.

Please pray for these tumbleweeds.

A Cowboy a horse
And two trees.

I am sharing another story that Cowboy Steve Robinson shared with me while we were at his arena in 2013. Steve is a working cowboy and is a top hand with a rope. He has roped with some of the best, tie down and team Roper's.

Steve told me he spent quite a few winters in Florida practicing his roping skills with some other top rodeo hands. Steve told me that there was a time when he had to get real little. I said how did you get little? Now Steve isn't a big man to begin with.

Steve told me while he was in Florida they were working some cattle. He said he was riding a green broke horse. I don't remember how he said it happened but he said the horse took off at a dead run and before he could gain control the horse headed for 2 trees. Now if a horse is 30 inches wide from side to side, now you add the saddle and stirrups and the rider, you now have 40 inches plus. The problem is the 2 trees were only 32 inches apart.

Steve said he saw the 2 trees coming real fast. He said he had to get real small. That meant pulling his legs up and leaning forward. I could only picture a cowboy riding like a jockey with a cowboy hat boots and spurs. Can you imagine seeing that horse and Steve going between the trees and how wide Steve's eyes must have been?

I know Steve is a born again Christian and I didn't ask, but I would bet he said a quick prayer. He probably only said one word, HELP !!!

JESUS must have heard Steve because he made it without any broken bones. He didn't say if he kept the horses or not.
