Ready for Summer
Standing Firm: Knowing What You Believe and Believing What You Know
This Summer , as the church of Longview Baptist gathers to worship, we begin an important journey together, one that takes us back to the foundations of our faith. In a world filled with shifting opinions, cultural pressure, and spiritual confusion, it has never been more critical for believers to know what they believe and believe what they know about God.
There is a difference.
It is possible to grow up around truth, hear sermons, attend Bible studies, and still never truly anchor your life in the convictions of Scripture. But faithful discipleship calls us deeper. God is not calling us to casual familiarity, He is calling us to confident conviction.
âAlways be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.â (1 Peter 3:15)
That kind of readiness only comes when we move beyond surface-level understanding into a deeply rooted, biblically grounded faith.
A Summer of Foundations
This summer, we will walk together through the essential beliefs that define us as Baptistsânot merely as a denomination, but as a people committed to Scripture and the Gospel. Each week, we will examine what the Bible teaches about:
The Nature of God Who is God ..Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? What does it mean that He is holy, sovereign, and personal?
The Authority of Scripture Why do we believe the Bible is true, trustworthy, and sufficient for all of life?
The Purpose of the Church What is the church called to be and do in the world today?
Discipleship and Evangelism How do we grow in Christ and share Him with others?
Baptism Why do we baptize, and what does it symbolize about salvation?
The Lordâs Supper What are we rememberingâand proclaimingâwhen we gather at the table?
These are not abstract ideas reserved for theologians. These are the truths that shape how we live, lead our families, influence our communities, and represent Christ in every sphere of life.
Why This Matters Now
We are living in a generation where many people have strong opinions but shallow convictions. The result is a faith that easily bends under pressure.
But Scripture calls us to something better:
Not just hearing truth, but holding fast to it
Not just knowing about God, but trusting Him fully
Not just attending church, but being the church
When we truly believe what we know, it changes everything:
Our worship becomes more genuine
Our obedience becomes more consistent
Our witness becomes more compelling
Clarity in belief produces confidence in life.
Moments to Pause and Celebrate
Throughout the summer, we will also observe meaningful moments together, including:
Fatherâs Day â honoring the gift and calling of godly leadership in the home
Independence Day â giving thanks for freedom while remembering our greater citizenship in the Kingdom of God
These will serve as brief but meaningful interlude, moments to reflect, celebrate, and refocus while keeping our eyes fixed on the deeper work God is doing in us.
A Call to Lean In
This is not a passive season. It is an invitation.
To come ready to hear from Godâs Word
To engage deeply with truth
To lead your family intentionally
To ask questions and pursue understanding
To strengthen your spiritual foundation
Because when storms comeâand they willâthe strength of your faith will not be determined by how loudly you profess it, but by how deeply it is rooted in truth.
Letâs Not Miss This Moment this it is our moment to grow stronger together.
Letâs not settle for vague belief or borrowed conviction. Letâs be a people who know what we believe and believe what we know.
And as we do, may our lives reflect a steady, unshakable confidence in the God who has revealed Himself to us through His Word and through His Son.
