Good morning, Detroit! In a world obsessed with novelty, speed, and youth, there is something profoundly beautiful about a servant who simply remains. At 92-years-old, still leading worship. Still kneeling in prayer. Still sharing the heart of God. No spotlight. No applause. No platform-building. Just quiet faithfulness. Not because ministry is easy, but because Christ is worthy.

May God grant us more pastors who finish the race this way. And may we never fail to thank the Lord for the quiet saints who have spent their lives answering the call.

Good morning, Detroit! This Memorial Day, beneath the banners and beneath the cross, we remember. We remember those who answered the call to serve — those who carried the weight of duty, sacrifice, and love of neighbor, often at great cost to themselves. The flags hanging in this sanctuary remind us that behind every branch of service are real people: sons and daughters, husbands and wives, friends and brothers in Christ.

In a world that often forgets sacrifice, Memorial Day calls us to pause with gratitude. We give thanks for those who laid down their lives in service to our nation, and we pray for all who still bear the wounds of war in body, mind, and soul.

Your annual reminder. Detroit gives us no shortage of "third spaces", places to gather outside of home and work. You can spend a Sunday at Ford Field, a playoff run at LCA, or at a Thursday day-game at Comerica.

But in the shadow of our favorite teams stands a little church that proclaims something far greater. The place where we worship eternal things that matter most.

Here.

Good morning, Detroit ☀️
During the season after Ascension, you may notice that the Christ candle has been moved from beside the altar. This tradition marks Christ’s ascension into heaven and reminds us of His promise to remain with His people through the Holy Spirit.
But the Christ candle continues to play an important role in the life of the Church.
At Baptism, it is as a sign that the newly baptized child of God has received the light of Christ. At funerals, it is placed near the casket as a reminder of the resurrection promise first given in Baptism — that in Christ, death does not have the final word.
The movement of the candle throughout the church year and throughout the milestones of Christian life beautifully reflects Christ’s presence with His people in every season.
Peace be with you this morning from Historic Trinity Lutheran Church ✝️
