To the members and friends of Liberty City Church of Christ,
We extend our thanks to all who have expressed their condolences and prayers to the family of Dr. James Mark Thompson and the members of the Liberty City congregation as we mourn the death of our beloved minister.
After much prayer and consultation with the Thompson family, it was agreed that the Liberty City Church of Christ congregation would close. Last Sunday, September 25 was Liberty City’s final Sunday meeting as a congregation.
Liberty City was started in 2006 by Dr. James Mark Thompson. It was his vision and will forever be part of his long legacy.
In recent months, following the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the congregation’s attendance was greatly impacted and diminished. The congregation was also still in search of a permanent location. These are all things that troubled the spirit of Dr. Thompson. Given the events of the past several months, and especially given the death of Dr. Mark Thompson and its chain of events, the leadership, the congregation and the family of Dr. Thompson stand with the decision to close and honor his legacy where it stood at the time of his death.
Our prayer is that each of you find a local congregation where you can land and allow the teaching of Liberty to bless your new church home while you continue to develop your vertical relationship with God. This is what our Pastor would want us to do.
We are the Pastor’s legacy. Let's allow him to continue to live through us by the things we say and do.
Peace and blessings...
