Prayer for Pastors—Give Us Rest In the Midst Of Our Work
Father, today I lift those who labor among us, men and women who carry the gospel of Jesus Christ, who bear the heavy burdens of leadership, the burdens of care for Your people. Father, give us rest today. In the midst of our business, give us rest. While we're still working, give us rest. While we are preparing to share Your Word with Your people, give us rest. While we are working through our own grief, struggling with our own insecurities, navigating our own lives, managing our own families, and dealing with our own demons, give us rest. Give us rest, not as a result of the cessation of our labor, for we are working on the wall and can't come down. But give us rest as a result of the empowerment of Your grace. Give us rest as Your strength is made perfect in our weakness. Give us rest in the midst of the struggle. Give us peace in the midst of our storms. Give us faith in the face of adversity. Give us a word for your people as we pray over our own worries. Tomorrow, they will come asking, “Is there a word from the Lord?” Tonight, allow us to rest, knowing that the affirmative is true. There is a word, and You have placed it in our hearts. We come to You, wearied of our labor, crushed by our burdens, and yet, confident that You will complete the good work You have begun in us. As we recline on our beds, allow us to be revived in Your arms. Lord, give us Your rest, in Jesus's name. Amen.
