“And now you must repent and turn back to God so that your sins will be removed, and so that times of refreshing will stream from the Lord’s presence.” Acts 3:19 TPT
"Times of refreshing from the Lord" refers to periods of spiritual renewal, divine comfort, and restoration. In a world ravished by war, upheaval, starvation, plague, and a troubling surge of fascism, believers worldwide are praying for divine comfort and restoration. In this nation, the “United” States of America, division is greater than any time in recent history. Racism has resurfaced and is proving to be as sinister as ever before. Our economy is in free fall. Congress is abrogating their oath to serve the people. Scotus is abrogating its role in upholding the laws and the Constitution. And Potus has totally abrogated his oath to “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and preserve, protect and defend the Constitution," opting instead to aggressively dismantle democracy and reestablish White supremacy as the bedrock of the nation, public corruption as the order of the day, and fascism as our mode of governance. As a nation and as a people, we are in need of spiritual renewal, divine comfort, and restoration.
And yet, there is little conversation among the people of God concerning repentance. If anything, it seems that members of the body of Christ are doubling down on our own failures, excusing wickedness, and overlooking the sins which so easily beset us. But our text teaches that the spiritual renewal we seek, the comfort we crave, and the restoration we relish, all come through repentance, God’s presence, and the work of Jesus Christ.
Will you join me in praying for the spirit of repentance to overwhelm the Church in America—those who proclaim themselves members of the body of Christ?
Holy Spirit, spark the fires of repentance, among us all, but especially among those who call themselves Christian Nationalists, who have a zeal of God but deny the power thereof as they pursue power for themselves at the expense of all “others.” Strip them of the cloak of respectability and unmask their deception and hypocrisy. Burn away everything contrary to the will of the Father, and bring these diabolical cultists that masquerade as Christian crusaders to their knees under conviction to the Word, the will, and the way of Christ. Holy Spirit, empower prophetic people to raise our voices to speak as one, calling this sin-cursed nation to repentance. Touch the people in this country who profess to know the One, True God—Yahweh—with Your finger of fire, and free us from every thing not of God. Let repentance gush forth from us and revival come forth from You. Cleanse this nation of the deeply embedded stains of the sins of our forefathers. Protect this nation from every demonic attack, within and without. Prompt those of us who proclaim ourselves redeemed by the blood of our crucified, yet conquering Savior, Jesus Christ, to humble ourselves, to pray earnestly, to seek intimacy with the Father, and turn from our wicked ways. Father, as our cries of repentance ascend to Your throne, let times of revival, refreshing, and restoration descend on our nation. Hear us from heaven. Forgive our sins. Heal our land. We humbly ask these things in the precious name of Jesus the Christ, our soon-coming King. Grant these requests, oh God, for our sake and for His glory. Amen.
