Our Vision is a New and Living Way:
Confident in the “new and living way” of Jesus Christ, we, the lay and clergy leaders of The Detroit Presbytery, commit ourselves to hold fast to the confession of our hope. We will encourage one another in love and good works:

..by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh), and since we have a great prie

st over the house of God, let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, . . . ~Hebrews 10: 20-24. God’s Word will guide us, the sacraments will sustain us, and the Holy Spirit will empower us. God will lead us to strengthen and transform congregations to embassies of mission, pastoral care and prophetic proclamations. We will aim to glorify God in our actions and attitudes and demonstrate the love revealed through Jesus Christ who is our Lord. "Come, behold the words of the LORD ...
who makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
who breaks the bow and shatters the spear.
Be still, and know that I am God!"
Psalm 46.8-10

The Presbyterian Church (USA) has issued an Action Alert in regards to ballooning costs for military spending and are asking citizens to make their voices heard in opposition. These reckless and unnecessary rising military costs reflect our country’s deep moral and spiritual malaise, our addiction to and idolatrous hope in violence and dominance. As Presbyterians, we know and confess that flourishing communities are built up primarily through international cooperation and through public investment that considers the least of these — NOT through lethal force or military dominance. When our nation and its leaders instead pursue grotesque and idolatrous forms of power, dominance, and further militarization, we must respond with loud lament and our confidence in the living God. Our peace is found in God’s reconciliation in Jesus Christ, who calls us to a global posture of peacemaking and cooperation (Confession of 1967, 9.45b). We call on our government to accept its responsibility to care for its citizens, to “heal the sick and look out for the poor, hungry and homeless... the widow, the orphan, and the stranger in the land, to safeguard God’s gift of creation, and to promote and protect the common good” (Tax Justice: A Christian Response to a Second Gilded Age, 221th GA, 2014).

Call on your Representatives to reorder our national priorities, resist the $1.15 trillion base Pentagon budget, and reinvest in the needs of the poor and vulnerable.

Attention Clergy and Church Staff:
The link above directs you to a full-sized flier about the "Cereal for Summer" Program, running now through September. Please download the PDF and print it out to display in your church to help spread the word.
The flier explains the LOCAL NEED for such a program, and how people can DONATE to the Hunger Ministries Program,. Congregants from across the presbytery can do so much good for their communities simply by donating boxes of cereal. Thank you all for considering taking part in this small act of kindness and generosity.

This weekend, presbytery members from far and wide gathered at Lake Shore Presbyterian Church to worship together and celebrate congregations and pastors, as well as to share a meal and stories of connection. It was wonderful to see many old friends and to make new ones, and we greatly appreciate everyone who joined us for the day.
Many thanks go out to the numerous folks who gave their time to assist in making the Spring Celebration such a wonderful day. It feels good to get back into a regular rhythm of meeting up as a presbytery once again, and we look forward to the next event in September. We hope to see (even more of) you then!

Many children who rely on school breakfast and lunch lose access to those meals during the summer. This year, rising grocery prices are placing an even greater strain on our neighbors in need. Inflation affects everyone, but it does not affect everyone equally. Low-income households already spend a greater share of their income on food. The same rise in grocery prices that is an inconvenience for some becomes a crisis for others. The same cost of fuel paid by those who have plenty is the very cost that forces others to choose between gas and food. More families are quietly struggling, even a small increase in prices means less food on the table, skipped meals, and a growing reliance on community support. What may feel like a burden to some is a breaking point for others.

Churches are not just helping they are essential safety nets. Join our Hunger Ministries Program by donating CEREAL FOR SUMMER, helping children begin each day with a healthy breakfast. Every child deserves a hunger-free summer while enjoying their break. Your donation can make that possible. Also accepting monetary donations made payable to Presbytery of Detroit Hunger Ministries.

A CALL FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS!

As has been announced at a variety of recent meetings, the Presbytery of Detroit is in the process of completely re-doing our website, creating a new platform from the ground up. One of the things we will be in need of to put our best face forward is EXCELLENT PHOTOS!

That's where YOU come in.

We are asking for submissions of solid, quality photos from and of our churches and congregations. We want to showcase the best from around the presbytery, and we hope that some of you can help provide that. Whether your church has had professional pictures taken, or perhaps you've got an amateur photographer in your midst who has taken some great shots, or you're a congregant who just happens to have snapped a few really nice pics at an event, we'd love to see them!

- Church Exteriors or Interiors
- Unique Artwork, Structures or Windows
- Shots of Your Congregation in Worship
- Pictures from Church Events
- Special Gatherings from Holiday Services
- Weddings, Baptisms, or Other Special Occasions
- Choir Performances, Incl. Hand Bells
- Candid Shots of People at Your Church
- ...and Anything Else You May Find Interesting!

It doesn't matter what you'd like to send us, we'd love to see this entire community represented! We want to highlight a wide variety of churches and congregations from around the region, showcasing the diverse people that make up the whole presbytery. If you've got some quality images that you're willing to share, please send them our way!

Please reach out to [email protected] to send your photos. In addition, if you have images on your page, you can direct us to the church name and where to find them so that we may download them from there. We only ask that the photos are YOUR OWN (not copyrighted to another entity) and that we would be allowed to use them on our website. These will not be used for commercial purposes and are strictly for community representation on our website and/or other digital or printed materials. So please indicate who took the photo (whether it belongs to the church or if it is coming from a parishioner, etc.) and that The Presbytery of Detroit is entitled to its use. THANKS!
