The same cycle can appear in our lives. We rely on our own understanding, make decisions apart from God’s guidance, encounter frustration or difficulty, and then seek him again when things fall apart. God’s desire is not that we run to him only in crisis but that we walk with him daily. True freedom is not found in self rule; it is found in surrender to the one who sees the end from the beginning. Independence from God creates instability, but dependence on him produces wisdom, peace, and direction.

From Genesis to Jesus, the story of the Bible is God restoring what man lost. Humanity chose independence from God and lost His rest. Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly paints the picture of “every man under his own vine and his own fig tree” until Jesus reveals that He is the True Vine and the source of that rest.
