This is the official Page of Blessed Solanus Casey, the Solanus Casey Center, the Father Solanus Guild and the Cause for Canonization of Blessed Solanus Casey, administered by the Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. He was the sixth child in a family of ten boys and six girls born to Irish immigrant parents. Bernard left the farm to work throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota as a logger, hospital ord

erly, street car operator, and prison guard. At the age of 21 Bernard entered St. Francis High School Seminary in Milwaukee to study for the diocesan priesthood. Five years later he contemplated a religious order. Invested in the Capuchin Order at Detroit in 1897, he received the religious name of Solanus. After his ordination in 1904, Bl. Solanus spent 20 years in New York, Harlem, and Yonkers. In 1924 he was assigned to St. Bonaventure Monastery in Detroit where he worked for 20 years. Solanus spent his life in the service of people. At the monastery door as porter he met thousands of people from every age and walk of life and earned recognition as "The Doorkeeper." He was always ready to listen to anyone at any time, day or night. During his final illness, he remarked, "I'm offering my suffering that all might be one. If only I could see the conversion of the whole world." His last conscious act was sitting up in bed and saying, "I give my soul to Jesus Christ." He died at the age of 86 on July 31, 1957 at the same day and hour of his First Holy Mass 53 years earlier.

On the Feast of the Holy Trinity, Blessed Solanus reminds us that the mystery of God is not only something we contemplate - it is something we are called to reflect in our lives. Through faith, hope and charity, we bear the imprint of the Trinity and become living witnesses of God's love in the world.

As we celebrate the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, may these virtues clothe our souls and guide our words, actions and relationships. In living faith, hope and charity, we reveal the presence of the Triune God to those we encounter.

The closeness that Fr. Solanus shared with God was the same closeness that people experienced when they encountered him, and it is the same closeness that is availabe to us every day. Over and over in the Bible, God never abandons His people, and He is always close to us in our suffering.

Join us for the ancient sacramental offering of the blessing of the sick with a relic of the True Cross, dating to the 6th Century Benedictine St. Maurus. The Blessing of the Sick has been celebrated at St. Bonaventure Monastery since the 1880s, and was a favorite sacramental of Blessed Solanus Casey.

"There are countless books, conferences, and courses on leadership. Some can cost thousands of dollars. At the foundation of each of them is a fundamental choice between leading as a ruler and leading as a servant. Having power over others is different than having power for and with them."

On the Feast of Pentecost, let us ask the Holy Spirit for the grace to become instruments for God. Blessed Solanus Casey was a dedicated instrument of God and allowed the Holy Spirit to work through him, whether it was at the door of the Monastery or starting the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Blessed Solanus was filled with the Holy Spirit!

Blessed Solanus knew that the healings that happened were the result of Jesus working through him, not his own power. Let us move forward with trust like Blessed Solanus, knowing that Jesus is the one who heals.
