The scripture today is from Psalm 119:33-40 and it's a prayer about releasing and surrendering. In the text, the psalmist has tried doing things his way for far too long. He's exhausted, life is heavy and it would seem as if he would pray for God to fix it. Yet he doesn't ask God to fix his circumstances. Instead, he does something radical, he asks God to change his heart, mind and desires. He's seeking true life, not temporary relief from his problems. Oftentimes, when life is life-ing and things burden us down, our immediate prayer is for God to fix IT! Sometimes, we bring God a list of panic-fueled demands without bringing our passion. Sometimes, we may slip into the desperation of trying to make a deal with God and making an assortment of empty promises. So, here's the question for us this Sunday: "What are you actually praying for when life gets heavy? Are we praying for the burden to lift or the heart to shift?
Join us as we dive into this text to find strength and the power to let go and let God!

The scripture today is from Exodus 3:1-15 and tells of the beginning of God’s process of bringing the Israelites out of Egypt. It gives us three powerful messages. First, it declares that we are important to God. No matter what we might think or what we have heard, we matter. Second, it assures us that God will take extreme measures to get to us, to talk to us, to guide us, and to stay in touch with us. And third, is lets us know that God is paying attention, recognizes what we’re going through, and is deeply committed to set us free of whatever holds us captive, whatever keeps us from enjoying full and rich lives.

Rest well

Here’s the thing nobody’s obituary is going to lead with, so I will: Dolly Parton picked up the phone for q***r press. Not just the glossies with the biggest circulation — she talked to a small LGBTQ+ paper out of Michigan, the one I write for, the same way she talked to Rolling Stone or Pl***oy, at a time when most of country music wouldn’t return that call at all. There was no algorithm rewarding her for it, no cultural mandate yet that made it the safe or expected thing to do.

I got to ask her about her gay family, her trans employees, her drag queen name (she told me “P. T***y, like P. Diddy”, whether Willie Nelson’s tour bus gave her a contact high — sometimes in the same conversation — because she never once treated an LGBTQ+ outlet like a liability to be managed. She treated it like a call from a loved one.
