Fort Street Presbyterian Church is located in downtown Detroit, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA). Co-Pastors:
The Rev. Sarah E. Logemann &
The Rev. Garrett R. Mostowski
Pastor Sarah grew up in the Denver-metro area in a family full of loving, atheist lawyers. Ballet was her first passion, and she danced with the Colorado Ballet company as a teenager and young adult. Though faith
was not a part of her upbringing, Sarah felt a spiritual curiosity that would lead her to church as a high school student. That curiosity turned into a vocational call and led Sarah to work in education and ministry in Seattle, northeast Ohio and New York City. She has always been drawn to the mysteries of faith that invite people of all backgrounds and experiences into a place of awe and wonder. Alongside her work as a pastor, Sarah writes Christian education curricula and is a church consultant with Ministry Architects. She enjoys running marathons, hiking, listening to Jazz, and organizing messes wherever she may find them. Pastor Garrett serves as co-pastor along with his wife, the Rev. Sarah Logemann. One of the first things he loved about Fort Street was the warmth of the people. He could laugh with them, listen to their stories, and spend easy time with them. He also was inspired by their commitment to serving Detroit. Pastor Garrett is a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary. He is also the co-host, along with his wife, of the podcast Textual Intercourse, where he and Pastor Sarah have a conversation about the scripture they have chosen to preach for the upcoming week. He enjoys writing in his free time, and his work has been found in the Princeton Theological Review, Geez Magazine, The Christian Century, and other small publications. Open Door Ministry, Trish Hubbell - Director
The Fort Street Presbyterian Church Open Door Ministry has had the privilege of serving God's people for over 50 years! Every Thursday, we open our doors to serve a hearty meal to people who need a meal. Also, each guest leaves with sandwiches for later in the day. Also, clothing, showers, medical services, and haircuts are available. A social worker provides counseling for assistance benefits. Job postings are made available in the local area. With your help, lives have been touched or changed. Wedding/Event Ministry, Loretta Stanton - Wedding Coordinator
We invite you to hold your wedding reception, rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony, or other events at the beautiful, historic facilities of Fort Street Church. Our Gothic Revival sanctuary seats up to 1,000 people, and our spacious Great Hall can accommodate up to 250 guests for a formal dinner. Our church staff and wedding coordinators are happy to work with you to custom design a wedding that meets your spiritual, aesthetic, and emotional needs. Although the bride and groom do not need to become members of our church, we ask that the couple believes in God and seek to find a spiritual basis for marriage and life. Five meetings with one of our pastors and the services of two wedding coordinators are included in the basic wedding package. Pre-marital discussions and ceremony planning are an integral part of these meetings. Dr. Glenn Burdette, Interim Music Coordinator
Dr. Burdette is delighted to join the dedicated people at Fort Street Presbyterian Church as Interim Music Coordinator. He recently retired after 19 years at St. James Episcopal Church in Birmingham, but continues as an adjunct faculty member at Wayne State University. Glenn received a BM in organ performance and music history from Oberlin College, and an MM and a PhD in historical musicology from the University of Cincinnati. He loves keyboard instruments, mystery novels, growing herbs, and family history. The Swift Memorial Organ
The organ was built by Wangerian-Weickhardt in 1914 and incorporated a small portion of the original 1855 organ. This immense instrument contains four manuals and 3,253 pipes, ranging in length from 16 feet to a quarter-inch. The soaring design of the sanctuary provides ideal acoustic conditions for the organ. Pierre Cochereau, E. Power Biggs, Virgil Fox, and Karl Richter, among others, have appeared in recitals at the console
The Fort Street Chorale
From a modest beginning in 1971, with a handful of dedicated volunteers occasionally singing in Sunday services, the Fort Street Chorale has grown into a cohesive, well-organized, musically proficient, 90-plus- member. This nonprofessional group has received widespread acclaim. The Chorale regularly participates in worship services at Fort Street Presbyterian Church and presents major choral works in public concerts. Since 1979, the Chorale has performed Handel's Messiah annually to large audiences. The Fort Street Chorale was featured in the award-winning documentary, "Miracle on Fort Street," shown on public television in 1984 and rebroadcast many times. The Chorale is a non-profit organization that supports itself mostly through ticket sales – and all amounts paid over $12 per ticket are tax-deductible. Also, non-singing volunteers always are welcome to lend their support to this fine organization. About The Presbyterian Church, USA:

Presbyterians affirm that God comes to us with grace and love in the person of Jesus Christ, who lived, died, and rose for us so that we might have eternal and abundant life in him. As Christ’s disciples, called to ministry in his name, we seek to continue his mission of teaching the truth, feeding the hungry, healing the broken, and welcoming strangers. God sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within us, giving us the energy, intelligence, imagination, and love to be Christ’s faithful disciples in the world.
