As the school year concludes, seniors from the Archdiocese of Detroit's 23 high schools say farewell as they look forward to the next adventure ahead. No matter what comes next, each and every senior's path has been ordained by God, who rejoices in and celebrates their unique time, talents and treasures.

Each year, in a special way, Detroit Catholic honors local Catholic high school students who, through their academic and personal pursuits, have risen to the top of their class as valedictorians and salutatorians. We honor their accomplishments, and give God gratitude for their hard work and perseverance.

Please join us in praying for the entire Class of 2026, and congratulate those below on their well-deserved recognition.

Camp Sancta Maria in Ga***rd has built a new high-ropes course to replace the old structure that was damaged in an ice storm in 2025.

The St. Pier Giorgio Frassati Ropes Course has been built just in time for the 2026 camping season, inspiring campers to follow in the footsteps of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati and go “Verso l’Alto” “To the Heights.”

A high-ropes course has been a bedrock of the camping experience at the 90-year-old Catholic campus, so it was important to camp leaders to restore the course.

Before Mass, Sylvan Lake Police Chief Corrigan O’Donohue reflected on the importance of faith and the intercession of St. Michael the Archangel for those serving in law enforcement.

“The prayer to St. Michael is a powerful tool for us,” O’Donohue said. “Anyone who has been in law enforcement for even a short time has seen firsthand what the wickedness of the devil can look like.”

Fr. Mark Livingston celebrated Mass and focused his homily on the need for spiritual rest and renewal for those who regularly encounter tragedy, danger and human suffering in their work.

When the burden of duty becomes too heavy, turn to Christ, Fr. Livingston tells first responders

On the heels of Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical "Magnifica Humanitas" — regarding protecting human dignity in the era of artificial intelligence — the Archdiocese of Detroit is hosting a special conference, “Ministry in an AI Era,” on June 11 at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit.

In collaboration with Magisterium AI, a project of the Catholic technology company Longbeard, the archdiocese's Department of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship had been organizing the conference before Pope Leo's encyclical was announced, but has been taking cues from prior comments the pope has made about artificial intelligence, said Michael Chamberland, director of the department.

Pope Leo XIV's widely anticipated first encyclical on artificial intelligence is here, and it offers a clear path forward to one of the most pressing challenges of our age. But the 42,000-word "Magnifica Humanitas" also serves as a formal launching point for Pope Leo's vision for contemporary application of Catholic social teaching.

Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger responds to today's release of Pope Leo XIV's encyclical, "Magnifica Humanitas," writing the pope's teaching "addresses the dangers, hopes, and responsibilities of today’s revolution" — artificial intelligence.

"We can embrace technology that enhances life without allowing that technology — or the corporations that profit from it — to dominate life. Toward that end, 'Magnifica Humanitas' offers 'criteria for discernment and guidelines for action' to orient technology toward the common good and shared prosperity," the archbishop writes.

"Pope Leo urges each of us to stay informed, involved, and self-aware of our choices and their costs. We must advocate for AI laws and guidelines that enhance humanity not just productivity or profits. In all these ways, and mirroring the warnings of his predecessor facing the degradations of the Industrial Revolution, Pope Leo today speaks of his hopes and his careful concerns."

In this formal Vatican document, 'Magnifica Humanitas' (Latin for 'Magnificent Humanity'), Pope Leo XIV grounds his teaching in our firm belief that each and every one of us is sacred, made in God’s image, and possesses intrinsic dignity, Archbishop Weisenburger writes.
