Dean Alsay recently met with our group of lay Healing Ministers for a training session. At the Cathedral, healing prayer with laying on of hands is offered at every celebration of the Holy Eucharist, for those desiring healing in mind, body, and spirit for themselves and for others. This Sacrament of Healing is offered by both the clergy and by lay healing ministers who have been called, and trained, and commissioned to this important mission of the Cathedral.

Friday Devotion with the Dean

Scripture: Matthew 9:35-10:23

Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed him.

These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, proclaim the good news, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment."

Tomorrow Evening!

Dinner Church & Reel Faith: “The Chosen” - Wednesdays, June 3 - 24
By popular demand, we are adding a summer session to our Dinner Church & Formation series, this time focusing on The Chosen, an amazing, biblically-centered television series.

In the historical context of life during Jesus’ days on earth, we have an opportunity to see the impact of his life in a fresh way. Through film and text, we will seek to explore who he was, what he did, and who he continues to be today. This formation class will be supported by reading of the Gospels, reflecting on poignant questions, and group interaction!

We invite you to join us on Wednesdays, June 3 through June 24. Eucharist and Dinner begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by Formation from 6:45-8:00 p.m.
