Proverbs 17:10
“A single rebuke does more for a person of understanding than a hundred lashes on the back of a fool.” — New Living Translation
60-Second Devotion: The Heart That Learns
Proverbs reminds us that the difference between wisdom and foolishness is not intelligence—it is the willingness to learn.
A wise person does not need harsh discipline. One word of correction, one moment of reflection, and they grow from it. Wisdom listens, reflects, and adjusts.
But a foolish person can experience many consequences and still refuse to change, because the problem is not what they hear—it is the condition of the heart.
For us, the lesson is simple: a teachable spirit is a mark of wisdom. When correction comes, we do not have to resist it or defend ourselves. Instead, we can receive it as an opportunity to grow.
In leadership, in faith, and in daily life, the question is not whether we will be corrected—everyone is. The real question is how we respond.
When we choose humility and understanding, even a single word can help shape us into wiser people.
Prayer:
Lord, give us humble and teachable hearts. Help us receive wisdom when it comes and grow from it, so that our lives reflect understanding and maturity. Amen. ✨
