The Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) is an organization founded by the late Rev. The GMWA Quartet Division is a subsidiary group of the larger organization that focuses specifically on promoting and preserving quartet gospel music. Quartet-style gospel music originated in African American churches in the early 20th century and typically features four-part harmonies and a call-and-response s
tyle of singing. The GMWA Quartet Division provides a forum for quartet gospel singers and groups to come together, share their talents, and participate in workshops, seminars, and performances. In addition, the division hosts an annual convention with showcases and awards presentations. The GMWA Quartet Division plays an essential role in preserving the history and tradition of quartet gospel music, which has influenced many other genres of music, including R&B, rock and roll, and soul music. Today, the organization remains a thriving community of gospel music lovers who are dedicated to keeping the spirit of quartet gospel music alive for generations to come. The GMWA Quartet Division is now under the leadership of Chairman, Bishop Kenneth Robinson, Sr. of Little Rock, AR and Co-Chairman, Pastor Darrel Petties of Olive Branch, MS.
