Happy Good Friday.
Let’s say a prayer on this peculiar day in a long chain of peculiar days. Some of us will be alone or apart from those we love this Easter Sunday weekend. And while it is sad and disappointing and difficult without the comfort of seeing those we love; we look to Jesus Christ as our hope during this time.
Dear Lord,
We recognize you are on the throne. We recognize that you are a provider and sufficient for any challenge we face.
We lift up our first responders and medical personnel to you in this time of Coronavirus. We pray that each time they reach for any piece of PPE or supply that they would find more than they need, without explanation. Lord, may the caps, gloves, masks, gowns and coverings go further than anticipated. Lord, may the other medical supplies, such as ventilators, medicines and chemicals go further than can be explained. May your provision spread to the North, the South, the East and the West.
Lord, strengthen the weak knees and sore feet of those serving right now. Guard their minds and hearts from fear of this virus. May they remember that you are no match for the pestilence that stalks in the night. Lord, you are bigger than this virus.
Lord, we pray over our prisons and those who work there. We pray for their protections, patience and safety. We pray for the prisoners also, Lord, we pray that they may come to know your peace and love and mercy this weekend. We pray that all might experience your grace and not fear. Lord, may there only be bright paths ahead for those in prison.
Lord, we lift up those struggling with depression, anger, su***de, eating disorders or addiction during this time. Please provide a way during this time when we are separated from our support structures. We know that you are the Great Physician and can heal any ailment. Please provide rest for the body and soul in this time.
And Lord, as it is written in Psalm 116, Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Please pour your comfort out over those who have lost someone during this time.
Lord, we know you hear our prayers. Thank you for sending your son for us on this Good Friday. Thank you that you never tire of hearing your children.
Amen.
