Our cohort had such a wonderful time at this year’s Fall Opening Retreat! We spent the weekend exploring what it means to belong in God’s love, and it was truly a beautiful experience.
We kicked things off with pizza, check-ins, and getting settled into our home for the weekend. Our first session invited everyone to share a personal story that shaped who they are today, helping us see and understand each other more deeply.
A highlight was a teamwork challenge where we had to lower a PVC pipe to the ground using just one finger—without losing contact! It turned into a lesson on patience, communication, and slowing down. Just like with God, when we rush the process, we miss what’s unfolding right in front of us.
We also had a powerful session on Dignity, guided by This Here Flesh by Cole Arthur Riley. We reflected on how dignity isn’t earned or given—it’s something we already have as people made in God’s image. Our conversations were honest and vulnerable as we explored how our stories, failures, and communities shape our sense of worth.
Outside of our sessions, everyone spent a lot of time enjoying nature. Some people went on runs, others swam, and we even had a peaceful morning stretch session to start the day. After that, we cooked together and made an amazing taco spread and pancake breakfast. We ended our last night around a bonfire under the stars—laughing, sharing stories, and just being present with one another.
It was such a fun and meaningful weekend, and you could feel how much more connected and excited everyone felt for the year ahead!
