An absolutely beautiful night! This past Saturday we celebrated the culmination of another program year at Set Free and shared a magical time witness an array of talents by all of our wonderful women.

“The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty Hero, the Lord is with you!”

“Sir,” Gideon replied, “if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all the miracles our ancestors told us about? Didn’t they say, ‘The Lord brought us up out of Egypt’? But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to the Midianites.”

“Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!”

“But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”

“The Lord said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.” - Judges 6:12-16 NLT

In Judges Chapter 6 - the Lord appears to Gideon and tells him to rescue Israel from the Midianites. All throughout Chapter 6 & 7, Gideon is in disbelief. God has called him to rescue Israel but he doesn’t believe he is capable of doing such a thing. In Chapter 6 Verse 15, Gideon questions the Lord and says “But Lord, how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest and I am the least in my entire family?”

How often do we question God because we can not see our own worth. Why would God call on me? I can’t do that! I’m not good enough? Someone else is far more qualified than I am.

I’m sure we have all had those thoughts at some point in our lives. And we may even still have an on-going battle with those thoughts.

But what I love most about this story is Verse 12- before God ever makes his request known he appears and says to Gideon, “Mighty Hero” the Lord is with you!” (Jehovah- Shammah)

Mighty Hero! Now why would God open up his conversation with Gideon calling him a Mighty Hero? God knew what he wanted done and he knew Gideon was that person. God knew Gideon better than Gideon knew himself! When Gideon could only see Gideon - God saw a Mighty Hero!

When I only see me - God sees his daughter. His daughter who is covered in his love and worthy of all his truths.

God knows our own unique strengths and attributes and if you let him he will guide you in ways for you to use those strengths to glorify him. He will lead us in paths of righteousness, for his name sake.

And Although God saw Gideons strengths - Gideon still had doubt. We can be told our strengths but unless we truly belief them we will stay stuck in our thoughts. Not knowing our true value. Remember Gideon’s question- “How can I do this? I’m not strong enough!”

When we are questioning our value, our worth, questioning whether or not we are good enough - in those moments we need to remember Verse 16. Gideon said, How? And then Lord replied Because, “I will be with you”!

When we think we cannot do something just remember 4 simple but POWERFUL words: GOD IS WITH ME!

Psalm 118:6 The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid.

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

God: I want to love, bless, protect, and provide for you. I will be there for you whenever and however you need Me. I will be your God.

{God calls Jesus over onto the conversation}

God: Hey Son, will you come here for a minute? I want to introduce you to your sibling. I love this child like I love you and I want to make a covenant with them, just like I did with you. And I was wondering if you would do their part of the deal. Would you go to earth as a man and would you live a perfect life, keeping the law in every part and never break it? Son, would you live for them?
But before you answer that question, I want you to know they will certainly break the law and for that the penalty is death. So Son, would you also die for them?

Jesus: Of course, Father. I’ll do it.

{God turns back to you}

God: Do you believe that if My Son does this for you that it will be enough? Would you put your trust, not only in the fact that He died a horrific death for you but also that He lives a righteous life for you? My Son lived the perfect life in which you could never live. But for you, I will make a great exchange. I will take my Son’s perfect Righteousness and deposit it into your account. Then I am going to withdraw your sin and self-righteous deeds and deposit them in His account. This is My free gift. All you have to do is put your trust and faith in Him. What do you say?

“He restores my soul.” Psalm 23:3.

Such a reassuring verse. A verse that brings a breath of fresh air. In the craziness of everyday life, knowing, believing and telling myself that God can restore my soul, seems to make everything else feel calm.

To restore anything means to bring back, to repair - as to return it to its original condition.

Throughout my life there have been many times that I have walked (maybe even ran) down a path that I thought was right. Because it was what I “Wanted” to do. Running carelessly, stumbling over fallen branches along the way. Not stopping to realize those fallen branches were Gods way of trying to get my attention. Yet, I kept running. Only to find myself at the end of a cliff. The path that I was running along, thinking and believing was right for me had finally brought me to a point of no return.

So now what? Do I turn around and go back (to my old ways) or do I jump?

Most would think jumping would be giving up. But for me, jumping was releasing myself from the old me. I was jumping into faith. Knowing my lord would catch me or pick me up. Throwing my hands up and declaring ENOUGH.

I’m tired of trying to run the show. No more! I’m going to do it your way God. You tell me what to do.

And you want to know what the most beautiful thing is? God was waiting for me with open arms. Honestly, he had ever left me. He was with me all along. Remember the fallen branches? The hurdles? That was God. Sometimes it takes us hitting rock bottom before we will let our pride down and look up - asking God for help.

No matter what, God will come to you. Seek him! He knows what he is doing! And when you let him into your heart, he will restore your soul.
